Mommy of a Monster’s Best of 2011: My Favorite Posts Of The Year

Last week, I told you that one of my favorite posts to write in last year around this time was  Mommy of a Monster’s Best of 2010 in which I went back through each month of the year and picked my favorite post of the month. It was fun to do because I found some posts that I really liked and had forgotten about, and ones that I wanted to share again.

I’m doing it again this year, and I want you to join me! Link up anytime through the 31st, grab the button (you can get the code for it over on my sidebar), and slap the button on your post. Visit other’s who link up too. I can’t wait to see your favorites!

Here are mine…enjoy!

January

The Business This post wreaked havoc across the Internet! Okay, that might be a huge exaggeration because really it only started the twins hosting The Bidness and Lila was featured over at Mommy Shorts’ blog a time or two. But it was fun to share Lila’s look with everybody! And yes, she will still give The Business if you ask her to.

February

Literal Literalness…Literally I am beyond literal when it comes to thinking. I’m so literal that sometimes it’s scary, which is why this was such a fun post to write.

But I also have to mention The Usual Suspects because everybody loves when I write and share photos of the trouble the girls get into when I’m not paying attention…and because this post won me a Blogma over at All Things Fadra!

March

The Ocean had me yearning to scuba dive, something I haven’t had a chance to do since a couple of years before Ethan was born.

You loved Blogging Must Haves (And Have Nots) for Newbies and so did BlogHer because they syndicated it!

April

All those things that moms say? I tried to list them all in If You Really Knew Me, You Would Know That…  I had no idea I talk about poop so much!

May

You guys wanted to see The Business live and in person, and I caught it in Ask and You Shall Receive!

I also wrote about being a Senior Hottie, and if you were in high school in the early 90s, you loved the big hair, Glamour Shot, and scrunched socks. My mom did not love hearing about my trip to Tijuana with my girlfriends that I lied to her about…

June

A post I enjoyed writing then and once again enjoyed checking out again now was My Free Pass List.

July

I loved telling you all about my first Evo experience with The Bloggess Turns Me Into a Zombie, iPad Envy, and How I Almost Died at Evo ’11. It was a great conference and I can’t wait to go again in 2012!

August

I loved Write Something from the Heart because it gave me my “real” voice back.

September

I hit a Mommy Milestone with Ethan’s First Day of Preschool. I can’t believe how big he is!

October

Just Breathe was something that I re-read often, but I also shared my first vlog ever!

November

Hands down one of my fave posts of the year: What I’ve learned Since Becoming a Mom (The Things That Suck), which also one me a second Blogma over at All Things Fadra!

December

I had a few really fun ones this month, including What Our Elf On The Shelf Is Really Up To When We’re Not Home and also White Trash Gift Ideas. And of course this post would be on my list because it’s all of my favorites!

Now go find your favorite posts from this year and link up!

Mommy of a Monster

There aren’t any rules – you can do what I’m going to do and share your favorite posts every month of the year or you can pick one post that was you feel was the most important one you wrote for the entire year. Or maybe you want to do it by categories: your funniest post of the year, the one that got the most comments, the one your readers liked most…or maybe it was a post written by somebody else. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just do it!

Best Of 2011 Blog Link Up

Okay, exciting news! Or maybe it’s only exciting to me…either way, I’m sharing it with you! Last year around this time, I wrote a post called Mommy of a Monster’s Best of 2010. It was a fun one for me to write – I went back through each month of the year and picked my favorite post of the month. It was fun to do because I found some posts that I really liked and had forgotten about, and ones that I wanted to share again. It was a great way to see how much I had shared with you throughout the year, and to see how much the kids had changed in just 12 short months.

I’m going to do the same thing again this year…and I want you to join me! Starting today and through the end of the month, I will be hosting Best Of and I hope that you will link up!

So What’s Your Favorite Post?

When I’m trying to think of things to write about, sometimes I go back through my old posts for inspiration. With over 400 of them now, I have a lot of them that I love that I’ve forgotten I had written.

To pick one? Would probably be impossible. Think back…which one single post epitomizes your blogging philosophy? Your life? Your family? Your childhood? Who you are today? One can’t do it, right? There’s just too many different aspects of who you are as a person to just have one single post that you love above all others.

And let’s be honest, my favorite post might have only gotten a couple of comments. Or a post that I didn’t think was that great might have gotten a TON of comments. Some posts are crowd pleasers, some post are your own personal pleasers.

So I thought I’d pick some of my top faves and link back to them. If you haven’t been reading me for long, there might be some that you haven’t seen that you might enjoy!

Mommy of a Monster’s Best Of 2010: My Favorite Posts Of The Year

I’m sure you’ve all seen the ‘Best Of’ lists that are all over the blogosphere right now. Some people are posting their best pictures of 2010, best posts, some are doing recipes, and one of my favorite bloggers – Gigi at Kludgy Mom – put together a Top 50 Chick Bloggers of 2010…and I am happy to announce that I made the list! Yay! I’m under the “Marvelous Moms” category. So check out her list because you’ll see lots of familiar names, and you’ll find some new ones to check out, too!

So back to the Best Of…I decided to do the ‘Favorite Posts of 2010’ with a twist. I’ll give a list of my favorite posts by month as well as your favorite Mommy of a Monster post. This was determined very scientifically (not really at all scientific, but it sounds very intriguing doesn’t it?): by the number of comments left. That’s how I determined the most popular post of the month.

Here goes!

January & February
None because I didn’t start blogging until March

March
My Favorite: My Nana
This is the second post I ever wrote. My Nana had just passed away and it’s a post about her life: being married for 61 years with 9 kids, 30 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Talk about Super Mom!

Your Favorite: What Nobody Tells You About Motherhood Before You Have Children
The title speaks for itself, but could I have possibly made it any longer?!

April
My Favorite: That Kid’s Got A Mouth Like A Long Haul Trucker
Seriously, what’s up with my never ending titles? This one is funny. It’s about Tater’s potty mouth.

We Just Don’t Do It Right
This was a post I wrote for National Infertility Awareness Week. I was so relieved to find out that we were not alone in our quest to have babies.

Your Favorite: ‘Anonymous’ Left Me My First Negative Comment
Still one of my most viewed posts, even though most people don’t comment on it. The comment was left in regards to my post about Tater’s potty mouth.

May
My Favorite: The Wedding Of My Dreams
A post about our wedding and how we got a very lucky twist in regards to our honeymoon.

Your Favorite: You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze
Most of the comments were about relating to the bomb blowing up in the toy room before 7 am and the button on jeans never being buttoned.

June
My Favorite: Dad-isms
My dad is quite the character, so for Father’s Day we put together a poster full of all of his most famous words of wisdom (or bullshit, depending who you ask).

Your Favorite: Cuz I Gotta Have Faith
Written about how I lost faith in God after my mother-in-law passed away.

I Don’t Feel Like Being A Mom Today
If I remember correctly, this was the first time I was 100% honest in admitting that being a mom sometimes sucks. This was the post that made me realize that people want to read about the negative part of being a mom too because it makes them feel not so alone when they feel the same way.

July
My Favorite: Pictures That Should Be Framed & Hanging, But Aren’t
And after seeing this post again, I think I have to do another one because now there are even more pictures that I’d love to hang!

Your Favorite: I’m Back…Kinda
I opened up about my battle with depression, and COULD NOT BELIEVE the amazing amount of support that I got from you all. That support helped me more than I can ever say.

August
My Favorite: The Birthday Party
Celebrating Tater’s 3rd birthday and the twins’ 1st birthday.

Your Favorite: Baby Jail
I laugh every single time I see these pictures!

September
My Favorite: White Trash Backyard Bash
This party was SO much fun! And believe it or not, this post is the most viewed post on my entire blog. I get more traffic from Google from people searching “white trash party” than any other key word searches.

Your Favorite: The Doggy/Baby Door
Note To Self: People like seeing pictures of the twins in action. Post more twin pictures.

October
My Favorite: A Long Awaited Brief Encounter
A piece of fiction that I wrote about introducing my mother-in-law to the kids. I’d give just about anything for this to really be able to happen.

Your Favorite: Stuck In An Elevator
A piece of fiction that had you guys believing it was real. It was a good one!

November
My Favorite: Mommy of a Monster Bracelet Giveaway
I mean really, how many people can say they have a piece of jewelry named after them! (Thanks again Betsy!)

Your Favorite: Bloggy Burn Out
I’ll admit, this is one of my favorites, too. And this is another post that proves that writing about negative things that happen in life isn’t bad…it’s relatable and proves to others that when they feel the same way, they are not alone.

December
My Favorite: The New Tattoo
I finally get a chance to show off my newest tattoo!

Your Favorite: Say Cheese
Oh, the goofy faces that kids make when they hear the words “Say Cheese!”

And there you have it! My favorites and your favorites of 2010. This was a really fun post to do, and if you haven’t done one you should…it gives you a chance to go back and review all of your posts through the year, and revisit some memories!

This is my last post of 2010.

Thank you for being such amazing friends and for allowing me to glimpse into your lives to see the good, the bad, and the ugly. I love that we’ve been able to share all of it.

Thanks to those of you who coaxed me into trying to write fiction. I love it. I love everything about it, and I can’t wait to do more. Your words of encouragement mean more than I can ever express.

And to all of you, thank you for your support, your cheers, your tears, and for reading my blog. Because when I started this blog back in March, I was sure nobody would be interested. I’m glad that you have proved me wrong, and pushed me to continue.
