You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze…And A Few Other Things…

You know you’re a mom when…
  • The top button, and sometimes the zipper, of your jeans is always unbuttoned because it’s too uncomfortable to bend over when they are buttoned/zipped
  • This is your favorite way to see the baby…sleeping, with her butt in the air
Ms. L
  • You cannot wait for the kid’s bedtime, and actually count down the hours and minutes…starting at about noon
  • The toy room looks like this, and it’s only 7:30 a.m.
Quick Note: This room was supposed to be painted before the twins were born because obviously the walls and couches don’t mix harmoniously with one another. I went on bed rest at 16 weeks. Painting never happened. I won’t say who was supposed to paint it, but I’m sure you can figure it out.
  • You have to use a Q-Tip to get food out of little noses and ears
  • Your kid goes to get a book for you to read, and doesn’t come back. This is what you find…
Note the crayon in his hand…you know what that means
You also know you’re a mom when you say things like…
  • Ms. M, please don’t play in your sister’s spit up
  • We do not say “shit” when we drop something
  • You do not tell Mommy to “calm down”
  • No, it is not okay to have peanut butter and chocolate (aka Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups) and a hot dog for breakfast
  • I know you like your pee-pee but please keep your hands off of it

A special shout out to geninabug who awarded me with the Versatile Blogger award! Go check out her blog My Beautiful 604 and show her some love! I know I’m supposed to tell you seven things about me, but my seven things are nowhere near as interesting as hers! I received this award a week or so ago, and if you’d like to know random things about me, click here for them. And if you are really, really interested in learning more about me, or just bored, check out these ten random facts.

And because I love giving out awards, here are three blogs you should really check out!

Poppy at funnyorsnot because she’s hilarious and we’d be drinking buddies partners in crime friendly neighbors if we lived next door to each other. Poppy, you have to do it this time. If you do not, I will continue harassing you until you do. Promise.

Christie at Mommy Drinks Because You Cry because how could you not follow a blog with a title like that?!

Julie at The Peanut Gallery…Exit Here because she was one of my first blogging buddies and I adore her.

And last but not least, I wanted to catch you up on Day 1 of my Alli-Lose-10-Pounds-In-A-Month plan. Yesterday, I wrote about why I needed to lose the weight here. There were a bunch of comments (thank you!) from all of you showing support and interest in my progress! So starting next Monday, I’ll start a weekly update.

In the meantime, Day 1went just fine! No weird, uh, side effects to speak of. So I was happy about that, as you can imagine. One of the comments (thanks Angie!) directed me to go check out The Mommyologist’s blog because she promotes Mom Sexy…go check out her post about it! I’m now displaying the Mom Sexy button proudly!

And so it goes…

  1. Sippy Cup Mom says:
I love it! And it's all so true! That is exactly how my living room looks all the time!
  2. Great! I recognise all of those. I don't think I've done up the top button on my jeans since Piglet arrived, I can't breathe if I do!
  3. Anonymous says:
hi natalie! u are so cute and i think your daughter, ms. l i think, is so beautiful:) keep up the funny writing!
  4. Funky Mama Bird says:
I like that button. Me want.

  5. NanaDiana says:
Natalie-Reading your blog is like re-living my life at your age...(just add one more child)...I can distinctly remember counting hours until nap time, post dinner time, bedtime & any other "time" that was gonna happen.

One of my favorite lines to my oldest daughter, TPot, was "No! Snowball (our dog) does NOT like being kissed on the butt hole"~ (remember this was BEFORE wet wipes!

Have a wonderful day-How many hours 'til bedtime?
  6. hushmama says: those standars I'm definately a mom :) With exception of counting down until bedtime. Becase my kids used to turn evil at night and the no sleep was killing me slowly. Not so much now. But I do count down until the husband comes home.
  7. I love your living room. Why am I not living with you? I'm a good painter!

Is it a bad sign that I want to move so badly I keep envisioning myself just squatting with other people?
  8. Courtney says:
Love it! Too funny. And I'd be lying if I said I NEVER say any of those things. Checking out the "bringing sexy back".
  9. The Activity Mom says:
So hilarious! I can relate to so many of those!
  10. Our playrooms are twins.
  11. Maureen says:
Ooooh I love sleeping babies and their butts in the air! :D
  12. These are good. I love dupa in the air sleeping, too. And I feel your pain about playrooms!
  13. We live in a Zoo! says:
Or if you do slip up and say the "S" word when you drop something, you practically want to say it again because now the kids have heard and they are bound to say it in front of the grandparents ;D
  14. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For showing us the real world of kids. Nothings ever clean, sanitized..... how DID I get ravioli on my walls???

We start counting the hours at 8am... I know exactly what you're going through with a monster toddler but I've got to give you a big round of applause. A monster and twins??? You're amazing.

Following dear. Found you through Ning.
  15. Heather says:
Have you been sneaking into my house to take pictures!??? ;)
  16. Arizona Mamma says:
That's the playroom? That's what my living room looks like!

I can relate to just about every one of those. Oh, and I even have a few butt in the air pictures ;)
  17. Krysten @ After 'I Do' says:
Oh my gosh, too funny. Things I have to look forward to one day, I suppose.
  18. I love it! I'm so happy that my living room isn't the only one that looks like that on a daily basis no matter how many times I pick it up! I can totally relate to the counting down the hours, and with the sun staying out so late now it just makes it worse!
  19. So True and sooo hilarious! I wear my pants like whatever...who cares! :) Congrats on the fun!
  20. Heather says:
I am often ashamed of myself for counting down till bedtime. I am glad I am not the only one.
  21. I can't really comment on any one in particular. Rather, I'll just say you had me LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY throughout! I'm definitely a new follower!
  22. The Mommyologist says:
This post was just SO SO true! I could relate to all of them, especially the picture of the toy room. I laughed out loud! And my son dumps his books all over just like that too. It's amazing. The minute I straighten this place up, ten minutes later all hell breaks loose!

LOVE that you are sporting the Mom Sexy button!! Embrace your have EARNED IT!!!
  23. hi natalie! i'm back :) so happy to see you have such a following! i love butt-in-the-air baby sleeping and not telling mommy to calm down, lol.
  24. Fantastic post! Oh, I can so relate. How did you get inside my brain?

You also know you're a mom when you say things like, "Honey, we don't say 'shit' in front of the k-i-d-s. Oh, crap, I just said shit!" :)
  25. I could have written this! LOL
  26. If SHE can figure it out.......... says:
OMG - my house looks just like that.... And ass in the air sleepers are my favorite. Oops. We don't say ass, do we?
  27. All so funny. Love the q-tip to get food out of noses and ears (lol) and the "you did not tell mommy to calm down". You're a hoot.

    Thanks for the laughs.

  30. Krista @ Not Mommy of the Year says:
wow. that could be a picture of my daughter sleeping with her butt up in the air. I'm just too scared to take a picture of it for fear that I'd wake her up. You are hysterical. So glad I found you through the d-list blog hop. You're one of my new favorites.
  31. Congrats on your award! You definitely deserve it!
My playroom looks like that pretty much all of the time. I clean it up and then 30 seconds later you would never know it had ever been cleaned. I laughed at the one about counting down to bedtime. As soon as naps where over today I said out loud, All Right! Only four more hours until bed time! I love my babies, but I also love it when my babies sleep! :)
  32. Hi Natalie! I see you just got the Versitile Blogger award. I nominated you too! You must really deserve it! LOL =) I <3 your blog.
  33. Hi there! I'm dropping by from the D-List blog party.

That picture of your toy room...that is what most of my house looks like on the weekend!!! I'm just used to tripping over crap now. What is the point in cleaning it up when you have a little toddler running around just taking it all back out again??? :-)

    Nice to meet you!
  34. Wish I had a play room with SO many toys!! Thanks so much for the shout out!!! :) Thanks for thinking I'm interesting.. I now know to never call you Nat, I hate it when people shorten my name too... there's a select few who are allowed, chances are if you call me Gen, I won't like you either!
I'm also the biggest hand talker, my man makes fun of me all the time, by using his hands to exaggerate what I'm doing... what a good!!
You're awesome!!! :) Thanks for including me again!
  35. Your kids aren't allowed to say Sh!t??? You are so strict!! (she says as she can't even type the word! he he)

Oh, and I love little baby butts in the air. Just delightful. Chock full of goodness!

You are too kind to adorn me with another award. I'm blushing!! I am the queen procrastinator of awards. I swear I'm gonna post these babies at some point!
  36. Crystal says:
    Love your blog title.

I have twins as well- they are 4. We also have 3 singletons. All boys. Fun! And I say that with love.

    Cute blog title.

I have a twin series over on my blog... check it out when you get a minute. Once a week I feature a twin topic/tip. This week, i am doing a week of postings on the topic- getting sleep once the babies are born. I've got some great gust posters writing on the topic!

    Check it out!
  37. Only if I can call you Nat
  38. WhisperingWriter says:
Ugh yes, sometimes I start counting down till bedtime the second my kids get up.
  39. JDaniel4's Mom says:
Stopping from SITS! My son goes to get books and doesn't come back too.
  40. Trench Mommy (Mandy) says:
    I know I shouldn't laugh...but Oh!...I know how that feels - the play room a mess.

Nice new look here! Did you use blogger in draft?
  41. This was a great post. And I kinda miss my kids sleeping with their butts in the air. So cute. :)
  42. Christine says:
I absolutely LOVE your play room. Too funny! My husband swears that will never be us. Oh the mind of an only child who was a neat freak from the very beginning...
  43. Funny list!!

You don't start counting til noon?! Um, I start shortly after breakfast (especially the last couple of days!!).

I love the "sleeping with their butt in the air". It's just too cute!

We need a play room... That picture is what my living room looks like most of the time.
  44. Angela Giles Klocke says:
Too funny! I miss those days. I really? Hmmm...
  45. the mombshell says:
My top button and zipper are never done up either, thank goodness its skirt weather. I've also been known to forget to put up the flap of my nursing bra on whatever breast I left off at, fully exposing the breast under whatever threadbare t-shirt I threw on that morning! Hotness!
  46. The Empress says:
Hey! I knew I recognized the look of that front room!

I was on bedrest, too...what else do we have in common???
  47. Gabrielle @ i.craft says:
    I'm still laughing! Great post!
  48. I am lmao right now, we have alot in common. My oldest Katie will be 3 in June and the twins, Kelsey and Kylie, just turned 1 last week. Three under 3 and at one point I had 3 girls under 2! Our living room looks exactly the same! Nice to know there are other moms out there that "accidentally" drop the F bomb. I can't wait to get home from work to, of course see the kids, but also to get my dress pants off and put on some sweats, that damn button sucks!
  49. The Mayor! says:
I get all nervous & twitchy when my kids disappear for more than a few's bad, very very bad...always...

And I STILL love seeing my 4th & last baby (now four yrs old *SOB*, sleeping like that...can't help but pat that little bum stickin' up!
  50. Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points says:
    Those all cracked me up.

Ummm...mine are teenagers now and I STILL say some of those things.
  51. Rachel Cotterill says:
    It's a whole different world!
