Will Bowl For Beer

I don’t know if I ever mentioned this or not, but I used to bowl on a Tuesday night bowling league after I had Tater. It was only one season, and the second season I got pregnant with the twins and had to drop out. It was so much fun, and I loved it! But I was really, I mean REALLY bad. And I’m not just saying that to be humble. I sucked. After bowling an entire season, my average was only 138. Bad I tell ya.

I bowled both seasons with my dad, my brother S, and a family friend we’ll call Mr. T. Mr. T is seriously the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. He’s super sweet, soft spoken, doesn’t cuss or drink. Basically, he’s nothing like the rest of us. Why he likes us all so much and continues to hang out with us loud mouth, drunk hooligans is beyond me. Maybe we provide entertainment, I don’t know.

Anyways, Mr. T has been bowling since he was a kid – I think he’s in his late 30’s now. And he’s good, I mean really good. He’s bowled fifteen 300 games…the man can bowl! My dad is a really good bowler as well. His average is in the high 200’s I think. My brother S is an okay bowler. But like with most normal people, after bowling a few seasons and for fun, he is improving. Me? Not so much. I’m lucky to get a strike a game. Seriously.

Mr. T told my dad that he’s never bowled on a team that talks so much smack…to each other. We are really bad about that. We laugh at each other, call each other out…I mean, we are all really sarcastic and smack talkers so we’re a rough crowd. But that’s all part of the fun. That, and drinking beers and just hanging out. I miss being able to do it, but with Jason’s work schedule, it would be very difficult to bowl on another league. Two weeks out of the month, I’d have to take all of the kids with me, and that ain’t gonna happen.

So why am I telling you all of this? Because I am subbing the next two weeks for my dad on his Tuesday night league! A year ago my dad had back surgery. He’s better now and has been back to work for several months. He called me over the weekend to see if I could bowl for him because his back is bothering him. He also said that if it continues bothering him, I might have to sub for him more often. I’m so excited! Once a week, a night out, without the kids? I’m on it! Add bowling and beer to the night and I’m an even happier camper!

Wish me luck tonight, because I can guarantee you that I’ll need it.

And so it goes…

  1. I can guarantee you that you're at least a better bowler than I am. the last time I bowled, I think I bowled a 40. If that. I'm happy if I hit a pin.

    have fun!!

We used to do a couples bowling league before the kids were born. You don't even want to know what my handicap was. But, oddly, I seemed to bowl better after I had a few beers in me. More pins to aim for, I guess!
  3. DIAPERS in the DESERT says:
Show those pins whose boss! I'm not that great, but I blame it on the fact that I am a wimp and need a lighter ball, but those balls have such small holes for the fingers. Yeah... I am just gunna blame it on the ball.
  4. I am terrible at bowling as well but I still think it can be pretty fun. Good luck subbing!
  5. moveovermarypoppins.com says:
I suck, too. Lucky to break 100 one out of six times I play...

But en evening out without the family on your back!

    Beers and smack talk?

    Oh, yes!
  6. Funky Mama Bird says:
I love bowling. I can never get anyone to go with me though, and there are no leagues near us that I know of.
  7. Have fun!!! I love to bowl too. We took our son for the first time this summer and he was totally into it!!
  8. Yes! Bowling! I love bowling. I generally drink 2 beers a week (yeah, I'm a lightweight) and they are at the bowling alley.

If you're looking to improve, there are a lot of things to help with that. If you're just out to have fun? Then have fun! And 138 is not terrible for fun bowling.
  9. Okay, so I bowled for two seasons and my average was 125. So if you are bad, I'm beyond bad. LOL

I loved bowling. Didn't love the league I was on because they were all old and crabby, but my team was fun.

    Have a good time bowling!
  10. Anything that gets your out of the house is a beautiful thing!

    Hope you had fun.
  11. Go girl!!! Knock those pins down! Maybe a big hiatus is exactly what your average needed :)
  12. I love bowling, but I can guarantee that you are so much better than me at it! If I could take my scores from Wii bowling and apply them to the real thing, I'd be gold!

    Enjoy your night out!
  13. That really does sound fun! I am a terrible bowler, but I would relish the weekly distraction. Have fun!
  14. I am a terrible bowler and don't enjoy it because terrible + competitive = misery. But you make this sound fun and now I want to go with you.
  15. That sounds like a lot of fun!
  16. Bethany @ Organic Enchilada says:
I hope you get some nice, non-fungusy shoes. :)
  17. Sheena Simpson says:
I'm sure you'll rock the alley. Some of the funnest bowlers are the worst. I hate going with my dad and bro, they are so freakin competitive they don't pick up a spare and they're mean.
  18. Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points says:
    You BOWL???

I am a danger to myself and others when I bowl.

I have thrown a bowling ball behind me.

    True story.

    Go you.

    I am in awe.
  19. Belle's Butterfly says:
I am horrible at bowling, but I rock the bumper bowling...too bad it's for kids. Enjoy your night out!
  20. No way! How cool! It will be such a great break for you!
  21. I love it! I am the worst bowler EVER but we laugh so hard I forget how bad I suck! Have fun!
  22. A weekly night out w/beer is much deserved. Have fun. If you get your own ball though an intervention might be needed!
  23. Sharlene T. says:
You'll be fine... It's a handicap league and they need yours... Besides, I bowl every Tues and Fri morning, and my average (after 10 years) is only 155... but, it's a great game and lots of fun -- and, a chance to socialize... You go, girl, and I do hope your Dad gets better...
  24. So cool...Hope you have a great time and enjoy the night out!
  25. You go, mama! Sounds like a fun time ahead for you and your Dad. I haven't bowl in years and have only done it once hahaha.
  26. Oh, how I've missed you. You totally crack me up. But just so ya know, I think 130s is rockin! At least for me. Good luck!! Have fun!
  27. Making It Work Mom says:
How Fun!!!! I think it is so cute that you are subbing for your Dad. when my husband first met me I carried around a bowling ball in the back of my car- you know just in case in emergency bowling game happened. I still haven't lived that down!
    Have a great time!
  28. Good luck, Nat!! I think bowling and beer go together...and the beer always make me throw better, too. Either that, or I don't care. Maybe that's it!

Hey, think of all the blog stuff you will hear and see!
  29. How fun!! I love bowling and I'm actually pretty good. While I have never been on a team, I'd secretly love to be. Good luck!!
  30. Organic Motherhood with Cool Whip says:
Woohoo!! Weekly bowling and smack talkin'? I'm all in. Can I come?
  31. Natalie...you still suck at bowling! But it's so much fun...Mr. T really doesn't mind, and either does the rest of the team! Have fun next week too! Love you!
