When I think of comfort food, I always think of pot pies. Where else can you get an entire meal fit neatly in a little pie?
My favorite pot pie is chicken. White chicken meat, crunchy carrots and celery, and peas that pop in your mouth, all smothered in a creamy sauce…that says love doesn’t it? Not to mention a flaky golden crust (my favorite part).
Alas, I have neither the time or the desire to make my own pot pies from scratch. What I do have is a pot pie that you can buy at the frozen section of your local grocery store that will taste like homemade!
“Marie Callendar’s lovingly creates each pot pie from scratch, with absolutely no short cuts, filled with juicy meat, tender vegetables, and Marie’s signature golden flaky crust.”
Is that the truth? Absolutely! This pot pie is full of crisp veggies, not mushy ones that you normally find in frozen prepared dinners. The meat is cubed in bite-size pieces, and the crust browns up nicely, while staying nice and flaky.
I might even venture to say that the Marie Callendar’s pot pies are even better than some homemade ones I’ve had. And I’m not the only one that thinks so. My husband was willing to write a testomonial for this post about his love of the Marie Callendar’s turkey pot pie! And Marie Callendar’s pot pies made it into Yahoo’s “8 Grocery Store Products that are Better than Homemade (really)” list!
They come in two sizes: the 10 ounce size is perfect for me and the kids can split one, but my husband likes the 16.5 ounce one. You can either pop them in the oven or microwave them.
I will say that I prefer the pot pies in the oven – it does take about 45 minutes, but to me it just taste better straight from the oven…like most things do. But if I’m in a hurry, I will pop it in the microwave and it tastes just as yummy and comes out just as delicious.
What is your favorite comfort food? Are you a pot pie fan?
