Nope! Our Kid’s Not Spoiled!

Nope, Tater ain’t spoiled at all.

He doesn’t have a full sized bed in his room.

He doesn’t have a flat screen TV.

Or a DVD player.

Or cable.

Wait, yes he does and yes he is spoiled!

Jason wanted to get the kid a TV in his room because him and I are absolutely tired of watching Barney, Max and Ruby, and Yo Gabba Gabba! I really, really despise Yo Gabba Gabba! No we didn’t also get him a brand new DVD player or cable box, we just took them out of the spare room. But still, how many 3 year olds do you know with big flat screen TVs in their room? I don’t know anyone other than Tater.

The TV, which he would prefer not to watch in his room unless he is going to sleep at night, is currently sitting on top of his dresser, and looks like crap. There are cords running everywhere and it’s just a general mess. Also? It seems like there’s even more dust in the room now since there’s more crap in there.

Jason tried to talk me into getting a swivel TV stand or one of those thingies that mounts to the wall, but I didn’t want to shell out even more money. I mean, what’s next? Is he gonna want to get the kid media cabinet furniture too? And after that maybe even an audio rack for a stereo system that he doesn’t have yet, followed by surround sound?

The kid is only 3 years old! I never had a TV in my room until I started working and paid for a tiny little one myself. I think it’s ridiculous to give him expensive things like that right now. But don’t let me fool you, I approved of getting it for the sole reason of not having to watch cartoons anymore! The problem is now that nothing has changed. I still have to watch Yo Gabba Gabba, Max and Ruby, and Barney.

Something is not right here people!

  1. I know what you mean! I actually thought my kid had an imaginary friend because she kept talking about this Foofa person. About the TV, you're not alone, my kid has taken over both sets in the room and living room AND everything else. Nothing is gonna ever be sacred, ever again. What did we get ourselves into?;-)
  2. I don't think he is spoiled because of the tv. I am assuming he didn't ask for the TV and then you didn't say no and then eventually give in because he was so persistent. I think if that happened it would qualify as spoiled. My oldest has a TV with cable and DVD player in her room, but really it is because she needs her alone time. She needs to be able to relax and be quiet without anyone else around. She doesn't spend alot of time in there, but when I do see her becoming agitated it is nice to be able to say "I think you need to go up to your room for awhile and relax." I prefer to think of my kids as well loved not spoiled :)
  3. I don't think he is spoiled at all! My 4 year old has a tv with build in DVD player and cable in her room. We put it in there when we transitioned her from the nursery to her big girl room last year before our son was born. We gave her our tv from our bedroom and we got a new tv! I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It gives them some time where they can be by themselves and watch what they want to in the comfort of their own room! Our little girl will have it on but not watching it, but she will play in her room while it is on!
  4. We have a little tv for Harlan's room, we just haven't set it up yet. I'm still a little weary on putting it in there at all. But I agree with you, I hate watching anything on Nick JR or Disney!
  5. I used to look at kids like that and think they were spoiled, but now, after having a kid, I totally get where you are coming from. There are so many promises that we made to ourselves that are broken once we have kids. After all, we need some way to preserve our sanity!
  6. Oh, this isn't spoiled. Spoiled is a 3 year old bogarting the iPad. Not that I would know any such 3 year old. Ahem.
  7. You need your sanity. Period.
  8. I miss, very much, listening to my own music. It constantly has to compete with the cartoons. But even if I get them a TV upstairs they would constantly want to be down here! So no one wins :(
