It Doesn’t Take Much To Make Me Happy

No really…it doesn’t take much to make me happy. One, single avocado will do it.

Remember back in June I was excited to announce that we had an avocado (finally) growing on our tree after years of waiting? And then a couple of weeks later in July, I flipped off our neighbor who turned off our water while we were on vacation…and our avocado died? It was a sad day at our house, and we were very pissed off that we weren’t going to be able to eat our first home-grown avocado.

Well, this morning hubby and I were outside drinking our coffee while we watched the girls try to eat rocks play before it got too hot to play outside. I was watching to make sure that the girls didn’t put rocks or anything else in their mouth, and I looked over at the avocado tree. And low and behold, I saw this:

I was so excited!! We didn’t know it, but a rogue avocado has been growing all summer! And it’s almost ready to pick!
Made my whole weekend, I tell you!
Also – a big, fat, special THANK YOU to Mommylebron, Colleen at Shibley Smiles, and Cori at Cori’s Big Mouth for honoring me with awards over the last couple of weeks! You ladies are awesome!
And I want to let you know about a couple of exciting things going on…
Gigi over at Kludgy Mom is starting a 6 week better blog program. Go check it out and sign up!
My friend Alicia over at A Beautiful Mess is launching Project Smile – so go check it out!
And one of my bestest blogging buddies Liz, over at a belle, a bean, and a chicago dog recently launched a new meme: “Dear You Guys”. It’s an awesome idea and lots of fun…go check it out!

Last but not least, Lori over at In Pursuit of Martha Points has created Project: Purse and Boots to raise awareness for the American Stroke Association. Please check it out and show her some support!

And I wanted to include this in my Saturday favorites last week, but couldn’t. You see, this post won the Word Up, YO! challenge last week, but I couldn’t tell you about the post because we don’t announce the winner until Sunday! So check out “The Handbook” over at The Great Mama Experiment. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did after you are done laughing!

And so it goes…

  1. Thanks so much for the shout! Woot!

But having avocados growing in your yard is almost as cool! ha!
  2. Woohoo! Beeeyooooutiful Avocado! Since I've known hubs - almost 16 years - he has taken the pits from avocados we have eaten and tried to grow them by using toothpicks to hold them half in half out of a cup of water. I have thrown out more avocado pits than - uh - well, it's lots. :)
Anyway - somehow or another he has gotten 3 pits to grow indoors and has three avocado tree seedlings. I have no idea if they'll get big enough to transplant - but wow he loves those plants.
  3. Avacados grow on trees? who knew?
  4. That's wonderful. We had an avocado tree in our yard growing up. Not much luck with getting fruit. Yours must be very happy where it's planted.
  5. That's awesome! I love Avocados!
  6. I wish we could grow avocados here - I love, love, love them!

BTW - there's an award waiting for you on our blog!

  8. An avocado...wow...we get excited when bad weeds spring up in our garden...an avocado, we'd be like, "Look! We're in Eden!"

An avocado growing in my yard would definitely make my weekend to. I just mashed one up for my daughter and she didn't like it. What is wrong with her?!

  12. Allyson & Jere says:
That might be the MOST AWESOME thing ever!! Your OWN freaking avacado. I think I'm as excited for you as you are. Congrats!

Can I come live in your backyard? 'Cause really...it's so GREAT!
  13. Sharlene T. says:
Well, once that tree started producing, it had to make an avocado to replace the one that didn't... it is the way of the plant world... hope you're going to make something extra special with it... if not, I'm going to sneak over there and give it a better home...
  14. blueviolet says:
That's the coolest surprise to see that rebel avocado!!!!
  15. WAHOOOO!!! That avocado has GUACAMOLE written all over it! Or, perhaps, SALAD WITH ORANGE SLICES, or maybe even TOMATOES AND MOZZ SALAD ... oh, consider the possibilities! Congratulations on your absolutely BEAUTIFUL 'cado!!!

Good for you and your avocado!!!! I know, sometimes it's the simplest things!

Plus, it was extra tragic when the one died because avocados are pretty much the tastiest things ever!

Aww...thank you for mentioning Purse and Boots, you!

You are just lovely in so many ways!
  19. Yay!! It must be great to watch something that you planted grow and bloom and become something you can eat and enjoy.

Lucas LOVES avocados and so I.

Congrats on your well-deserved awards. :)
