I’m A Scary Mommy, Are You?

scary_mommy_book I’m sure you know that Jill Smokler (AKA Scary Mommy) wrote a book titled Confessions of a Scary Mommy that you can pre-order now, have you ordered yours yet? Somehow, I got lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of the book already, and let me tell you that this is a book you’re gonna want to read!

What’s so great about this book is that it’s a book you don’t have to sit down and read all in one sitting (but you will want to). Remember that this is a book written by a mom to be read by other moms. This is a book that you can read a few pages of whenever you have time: if you are waiting for a pot of water to come to a boil, in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, or while the kids are in the bathtub. It’s a fun read, and one that will even have you laughing out loud in some parts.

Every mom I know will relate to this book – it’s written honestly and openly…the no bullshit approach. It’s almost like you are sitting down and talking to Jill about motherhood; the good, the bad, and the scary of it.

This book isn’t for moms who say that they love every minute of motherhood and find wonder and beauty in each day of it. This book is for real moms out there: the moms who freely admit to losing their cool and screaming like maniacs at their kids, the moms who fantasize about their lives before kids and everything they miss about it, the moms who don’t even like being moms on some days because sometimes being a mom just sucks. It was written in a way that is supportive; that if you feel any or all of these things, it just means you’re normal. That you are just a Scary Mommy like the rest of us.

Even the titles of the chapters are brutally honest (and funny!). Titles like “Yes, You’ll Shit on the Delivery Table” and  “I Hate Other People’s Kids (Not Yours, Of Course).” See? Honesty.

Before reading this book, I was already a huge Scary Mommy fan, and now I love Jill and everything that Scary Mommy represents even more. This is a book I will pick up to read a few pages of on those days when being a mom sucks – just to remind myself that I’m normal and that it sucks for everybody sometimes. This is a book I’ll pick up to read when I want to runaway from the kids or when I just need a funny pick-me-up.

From one Scary Mommy to another, thank you Jill for sending me a copy of your book. I think I’m going to start giving it with baby shower gifts so that first time moms will know they are normal!

I recommend that you pre-order Confessions of a Scary Mommy RIGHT NOW if you are a Scary Mommy! And guess what? Because Jill is awesome, she’s letting me give one of you a signed hardcover copy of Confessions of a Scary Mommy! I won’t make you jump through hoops to get it, just leave me a comment below telling me why you are Scary Mommy.

  1. I'm a Scary Mommy because I'm an honest mommy - IRL and on my blog. Being a mom is really really hard. And there are definitely days that I wonder WTF I was thinking by having kids. But there are thankfully lots of good days, too. (I have to say that, right? Ha ha.) JD @ Honest Mom recently posted..11 Signs it’s Spring in SuburbiaMy Profile

  5. I am Scary Mommy. Two days ago my child had a temper tantrum to end the world. I ended up yelling. And not a little. Less than 24 hours later? Raging sinus infection & pink-eye. I yelled at my teetering on the verge of sickness child. Ooops :( angela recently posted..Celebrating with MemoriesMy Profile

I am so in the scary mommy club. In fact, I should be the leader of the pact. I have happily left work recently to become a stay-at-home mom and I've been feeling extremely off. It could be because Baby #3 is about to explode out of me any day, but I find myself going berserkO with my 1 and 2 year old at random moments -- bless their little hearts. I am so glad women can be honest and tell the whole truth of motherhood-- the good, the bad, and craziness of it all. I would love to read this book -- just to feel normal again! :)
  8. I'm so in!!!!! Been waiting for this to come out. Cuz I'm a very very scary momma. MommaKiss recently posted..Turn that frown updside down, bitchMy Profile
