4-Ingredient Cream Cheese Mints - All Things Mamma

When I was a little girl, I used to spend a lot of nights at my Aunt Patty’s house (apartment? room? See? I was so little I don’t even remember). Anyways, one of the things I remember most is making “mints“ with her. They were actually cream cheese mints, and they taste just like Hickory Farms Meltaway Mints…and I’ve told you before those are one of my top 5 favorite candies!

Those little homemade mints were so yummy, and I remember how much fun it was to make them. I remember pressing the fork tines into the mints to make little crisscross marks in them, and then waiting for them to harden up before we ate them.

A few years back, I asked my Aunt if she remembered how to make them. She didn’t, but thought she had the recipe somewhere. She dug it up (thank you Aunt Patty!), and emailed it to me on November 1, 2009 (I still have the email!). I have made them with my kids and with my nieces a couple of times now, and I want to share the recipe for you because it’s one of my most treasured recipes, and brings back very sweet memories.

Cream Cheese Mints

Ingredients
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 pounds powdered sugar
1/8 teaspoon of peppermint flavoring
Food coloring (any color)

Directions
I a large bowl, mix all ingredients together and knead until creamy and smooth. If you want a stronger or more vibrant color, you can add more food coloring and knead it in.

Note: If the dough gets warm, it will get sticky; if this happens, put it into the refrigerator for about 15 minutes.

Roll into balls, and place on wax paper. Allow to dry.

Now if you don’t want to leave them as balls, you have a couple of options:

  1. You can press the dough into rubber or plastic molds, remove, and then place on wax paper to dry.
  2. Using a fork, you can gently press on the rolled balls and press a crisscross pattern, turning the ball into a cookie.

Once dried, place them in an air tight container in the refrigerator.

This recipe is perfect for the holiday treats, wedding favors, baby showers, or as a yummy treat year round. Get creative! You can “mold“ the dough into any shape!
