I Found Bravo’s Next Top Chef

I found THE chef for Bravo’s Top Chef! And quite possibly, The Next Food Network Star! Tater brought a tear to my eye this morning. I was making breakfast, and he asked if he could help. Never mind that I had just finished up cooking, there were still a few things he could help me with. So I said sure, and he then asked me for his “thing”…which I knew meant his little apron. But you might notice that the little apron he’s wearing has an “N” on it. That’s because it was my apron when I was a little girl!
My mom’s friend made me that apron. I have no idea how old I was, but I remember that I absolutely loved it. It has pockets along the bottom of it, so I used to play “waitress” and put my notepad and pen in the pockets. And serve food on my mom’s Tupperware, the only actual dishes I could reach.
And then I outgrew the apron, but I’ve mentioned before I’m a pack rat, so away it went into a box somewhere in with all of my other stuff into the Land of the Lost. I didn’t even think about that apron again for years. Then last year, I was doing some major cleaning out of boxes and other pack rat stuff, and I found it!
Tater has never shown any interest, until today, in wearing that apron. I’ve tried to put it on him and asked him to help me too many times to count. He always says no in a very *snarky* tone. Why he decided today was the day I don’t know, but I am very excited that he’s showing some interest in helping me in the kitchen because I love to cook, and hope to pass the passion on to him. Because, let’s face it, there’s no bigger turn on than a guy that can cook! See? I’m setting him up for success with the ladies in the future!
Anyways, here are more pictures of his first adventure in the kitchen. Be still my heart! And what’s cuter than semi-naked cooking…he’s in an apron and underwear (side note: more on the underwear later this week…potty training is almost complete!).
Putting mass amounts of cheese on the burrito.
Daddy tells him it’s too much, that he’s not half rat like mommy!
Picking up the bacon and literally throwing it on the burrito
Watching Daddy readjust the bacon
Helping Daddy roll up the finished burrito

And this post just wouldn’t be complete without the rear view of Tater’s apron:

See! Told ya I found the next Top Chef!

And so it goes…

  1. Lindsay says:
How precious! Who doesn't love half-naked cooking?? And that little apron is the cutest!
  2. Oh Natalie, this is too cute!! I love the way he's rockin' that apron with his undies on!

I'm such a control freak, it was always hard for me to start letting mine "help" with cooking. But once I let go a bit, it was SO worth it...they just feel so big and proud of themselves!
  3. Ms. Understood says:
LOL!!! When I saw the first pic I was like, "Is he nekkid??" I think it's so cute that you have stuff from your childhood that you can save for him. I still have my first doll and some wall plaques from my bedroom growing up that I'd like to put in my future child's room. I used to have a tiny rocking chair, I wish it was saved, but it wasn't. Great use of WOW.
  4. Big Fat Mama says:
This is so cute. You've encouraged me to get my kids in my kitchen to help me out more!
    Big Fat Mama
  5. STOP with this cuteness! ugh! Look at those two! I'm loving this so much. I'm jealous for many reasons: Potty training almost done? Man, I haven't even started! Burritos? YUMMY! Please make some for me! Your kitchen? Simply adorable. We have a hallway TINY kitchen I'm shoved into so I'm drooling over yours.
  6. What a big boy, asking to help his mama in the kitchen! Love the apron and that you kept it for all these years.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
  7. What a cutie!! I love your apron too :)
  8. Mommy Spirit says:
So precious...in an apron and Diego undies no less. These are the memories that will make you smile forever and the pictures that will make him blush forever. Can't wait until my little boy decides it'd be fun to help me in the kitchen. Right now he's only interested in the eating part...
  9. Absolutely adorable! Gotta love a man who can cook (my hubby does 99% of the cooking). And the Diego undies Rock! I'm sure he will appreciate these pics when he is in high school lol..
  10. Booyah's Momma says:
Mmm, bacon. I think I could probably get a few more helpers in the kitchen if I made bacon more often. How sweet of him to want to help you... and what a great ensemble!
  11. Heck, yeah, you're helping him out! A man who can cook is DEFINITELY a great thing. And he's such a cutie in that apron. My oldest loves to help cook, which is always fun.
  12. Nina @ Momma Go Round says:
That is so stinkin cute! I have a soft spot for little tushies, and Tater's is extra adorable in that apron. So glad you could enjoy this together!
  13. Allyson & Jere says:
The ONLY thing cuter is an actual naked chef. But, this is pretty dang adorable!
I find this one of those tricky moments in parenthood. It's sooo much easier to just do it yourself and get it done. Maggie asks to help me all the time, and I really have to take a deep breath and drop my OCD and control issues to let her in and do it. It makes her so happy.
Super cute little chef. May you have many more kitchen moments to come.
Oh, and also, I have pack rat issues too.
  14. Pumpkin and Piglet says:
Oh bless him! He looks so cute! I think it's great that he wants to help, even if it is easier to do it ourselves. And you're right, nothing more attractive than a guy who can cook so it's best to train them young!
  15. Maxabella says:
Gooooorgeous. I love that it's your apron from when you were a girl. What a lovely heirloom. And he's rocking it with a pair of Diego undies. What more do you need!?
  16. cooperl788 says:
This is so ridiculously adorable! I love the apron too - it looks like your mom's friend made that with lots of love. And the fact that you kept it and Tater uses it is awesome.
  17. NanaDiana says:
How sweet is that! I am kind of a pack rat too (on some things) so I understand the importance of "passing things along". The apron makes the moment all the more precious! Kisses for the cook~ Diana
  18. Maureen says:
Ooooh how cute! Love the pictures and that apron is precious little thing to share with your handsome Little Chef :D
  19. So how CUTE is that little tater!!! The apron and under-roos photos CRACK ME UP!!! Absolutely aDORable! Yes, he is definitely the next Top Chef! LOVE IT!
  20. Go Tater! Pile that bacon high!! Um, he could be the new age Jamie "Naked Chef" Oliver?!?! :)
  21. Loving the Diego underwear! :-)
  22. Vodka Logic says:
How adorable. He'll make a great husband someday..and half naked especially
  23. Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points says:
Is there something notable about cooking wearing nothing but an apron and knickers?

I mean really - if you didn't wear the apron, think about where the grease spatters would go!

Cooking in just your lacy underthings is simply ridiculous.
  24. Super cute. If he makes house calls I'd be willing to hire him.
  25. Precious! Love the Diego undies. The Dracenator had those same ones.
  26. Sharlene T. says:
Too adorable! Once I finally let go of my OCD, it was great fun having the girls help in the kitchen... my oldest would always cook recipes that could be done in one pot (I think if she could have put the drink and dessert in the same pot to cut down on dishes, she would have!) and the youngest loved the soup-to-nuts meals, fancy plates and very creative napkins!
But, I wish I had thought to take pictures for the memories... that's what makes blogging so much fun and so special... (Now, make a matching apron for Daddy for some really great cooking photos!)

  27. Kristin @ Peace, Love and Muesli says:
I'm a little sad that I don't have a tater made bacon cheese wrap.
  28. Courtney says:
This is too cute! HAHA! Love the little Diego undies. Keegan loves to "help" me in the kitchen, too. He looks just like you, girl. Handsome little thing!
  29. Belle's Butterfly says:
Adorable! Did he enjoy his first time cooking with Mommy? Good to hear that potty training is almost complete. Must be such a relief! Oh and I'm with you, the more cheese the better!
  30. Funky Mama Bird says:
That is so insanely cute. I just died of cute over here.
  31. definitely the next top chef! such cuteness!
  32. Claudia says:
Good job! Yeah - learn him how to cook and the girls will fall for him.. ;=)
  33. blueviolet says:
I am incredibly sentimental, so this just touches my heart that he's wearing your apron. Truly!
  34. Karen Mortensen says:
This was just way too cute. I think it is good to save stuff like that.
  35. Totally not a pack rat just sentimental. These are great pics and will def be blackmail later in life lol
  36. The Urban Cowboy says:
Ha...right on! You're absolutely correct, every woman loves a good cook, right?
  37. Aging Mommy says:
Just wonderful - he looks SO like you Natalie! Well I reckon Jamie will be hanging up his apron by the time Tater is old enough for his own TV show so Semi-Naked Chef sounds like a wonderful name for his cooking channel!
  38. TornadoTwos says:
LOL, that's so cute! My boys have all been more interested in cooking with me then my daughter was.
  39. MommaKiss says:
cute cute about him wanting to help - we get that too. pullin the stool over and struggling over the rug and crying 'help!' and then breaking eggs. good times :P
That said? I absolutely love the undie-buns. When they're out of dipes for a while and you see that little tooshie in just undies, well, it's awesome.
  40. Ok, he is so adorable in that apron! You are right, a man that can cook is so wonderful in so many ways. I think it is awesome you are helping him learn. I need to do so much more cooking. It isn't that I don't like cooking I just don't seem to have enough time for it. My time excuse loses value though when I see you have time for it because you have twins the same age as mine.
  41. Megan (Best of Fates) says:
    With an apron like that?

    I'd vote for him.
  42. He is too cute for words! Love the apron and undies!

Thank you so much for commenting on my BFF post over at Shell's blog last week. Instead of Sandals or Beaches, we are going to take the boys to Cancun. My oldest has been there twice and has been asking to go back. The youngest has never been there, so it's time!
  43. Mama Hen says:
Natalie that is so cute! Teach him now and you can enjoy some dinners and breakfasts cooked for you in the future! I used to love making things for my parents! Have a great night!

  45. PV Lundqvist says:
In my house, we put flour on our nose first. Puts us in the mood.

Love how dad is readjusting the bacon. Such a guy move.

  48. The Iowa Farmer's Wife says:
Oh how funny! Just found your blog through someone else's. He's the new Naked Chef! What a fun thing and an adorable apron...so cute that you saved it!
  49. Adorable and the rear shot is the best (oh and the massive quantities of cheese!). I love his Diego underwear.
  50. WeeMasonMan's Mom says:
Oh my gosh, the undies and apron combo is just cracking me up!
  51. Hello! I'm Kate. says:
