“Homemade With Love” Cookbook Review: A Must Have If You Love To Cook!

Disclosure: I received a copy of Homemade With Love cookbook in exchange for this review. All opinions expressed are my own.

As an avid reader and wanna be foodie, cookbooks are more than just books to me. A beautifully photographed cookbook can keep me entertained for hours. My cookbooks are earmarked, have notes scribbled in them, and have spills that litter the pages. Some have been handed down to me, others purchased for me, or purchased myself. I love them all. And I’m excited to have added the Homemade With Love cookbook by Jennifer Perillo to my collection.

Homemade With Love Cookbook

The name Jennifer Perillo might sound familiar – if you read a lot of food blogs you may be familiar with the author’s blog In Jennie’s Kitchen. She’s all about cooking from scratch, but don’t get scared! It’s much simpler than it might sound.

Homemade With Love is so much more than just another cookbook. Sure you’ll find tips, advice, and amazing recipes, but you’ll feel like you are sitting down and talking to a friend. She shares recipes the whole family will enjoy, while making the recipes simple to follow and understand.

homemade_with_love_cookbook The introduction explains how and why Perillo started blogging, and how the book came about. If you’re a home cook that finds cooking from scratch, buying local, and eating a home-cooked meal with family and friends important, this book is a must have.

The photography is stunning and simple. The pictures aren’t perfect, and look like meals that you probably would be willing to put in front of your family tonight. Not sure where to get started? Perillo even tells you how to set up a homemade kitchen, pantry, fridge, and freezer.

If you have special dietary needs, this book is for you too! There are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and even adaptable recipes included. I love that she labels the recipes that can be made ahead, made in just an hour, or even made in 30 minutes or less. It makes weeknight meal planning much easier.

The very first recipe in the book is a recipe for all-purpose baking mix. Say goodbye to boxed cake, muffin, and pancake mixes! No preservatives or artificial anything, and all ingredients that I bet you already have in the pantry.

You know I love me some grilled cheese sandwiches…there’s a recipe for Apple, Cheddar, and Pancetta Paninis that I can’t wait to try on my next cheat day!

And while I’ve already earmarked more than half of the 230+ pages, by far my favorite section that I’m looking forward to trying myself is the section on canning. Our plum and peach trees have more fruit on them than I can count, and I really want to try preserving some of them this year instead of  giving away (or throwing away) all that beautiful unused fruit.

The Homemade with Love cookbook is a beautiful cookbook that I will be using for years to come. It’s also attractive enough to set on a table as a coffee table book – I have had several friends over who thumbed through it and asked to borrow it!

  1. And you've officially made me hungry with the idea of grilled cheese and with the cover of those delicious looking donuts. I will definitely have to look into the book... I should really cook more and order out less! Marta recently posted..When is Too Much, Enough? My Profile
  2. i feel like i need to learn how to cook again. because of some really rough bowel troubles my girls had very early on in their life, through the age of about 2 1/2, i had to have a very string and almost vegan diet for them. now they can eat a much wider range of foods, but they're very pick. nothing too mushy, nothing too wet, nothing too texturey. OY!! On the plus side they eat a LOT of fruits, and single grain items. anyway..... i'm rambling. So I'm always interested in trying a new cookbook and recipes the whole family might enjoy. This is one I'm adding to the list. Thanks for sharing! laura recently posted..to be aware of an abused child: my story, part 1My Profile
