Friday Flip Offs & The Robbery Continued…

Without any further adieu, here are the top three things that irritated me to no end this week:

Laundry. You know my feelings about you. I actually got caught up with you last week…everything washed, folded, AND even put away…and now it’s already like I haven’t done it in a million years. So as usual….FLIP OFF.
To the corners of my bedposts that I keep running into, leaving my legs looking like hubby beats me. I’ve gotta put a bathing suit on in a few days and I look like a bruised banana (except pasty white…couldn’t think of any other analogy). Flip-o Off-o.

Mommy Guilt: You are my special flip off this week. I’m doing the best I can. Sometimes I lose it, and that’s okay. Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing this whole mommy thing right, and that’s okay too. Why do you sneak into my head and make me feel inadequate and like I’m a horrible mom? Get the hell out! Take a hike and don’t come back. I don’t want to cry in front of Tater again and scare him. I want to just get through my days feeling alright about the job I’m doing. Please leave me alone. And while your at it, leave Momma Kiss alone, too. She’s got a flip off waiting for you at her place too….looks  a little something like this:
Thanks to Kludgy Mom for starting Friday Flip Offs and keeping us all sane!
And just so I don’t sound like a completely, miserable whiner…here are a few things I am happy about this week!
Although I missed celebrating these things, they all happened this week: I posted my 100th post, hit my 3rd month blogiversary, AND got my 300th follower friend! Another shout out and a big gracias to Momma Kiss (my 300th friend)…and a big, fat, sweet, hug-filled thank you to each and every one of you for hanging around and supporting me. I’m a better mom because of the advice and support from you!
My friends. The ones that are there when I need them. You know who you are and I’m sending you virtual hugs. Thank you for being there to wipe away my tears with your words.
The Bank Robbery Ending
Lots of you wanted to know how my story ended after I got robbed when I worked as a merchant teller at the bank. This happened almost 20 years ago…which is why I can talk about it so matter-of-factly. I loved working in the bank, and would do it again as a part time job (things have changed…bullet proof glass now!). Before I got robbed, I always thought I’d fall over and just cry like a baby if it ever happened. But when it actually happened, adrenaline kicked in and took over, and I did exactly what I was trained to do (except the lying part of the story…nobody told me to do that!). I immediately fell apart after he left. Big time!

A couple of weeks after the robbery, I transferred back to the branch in my home town. A week or so after that, I was one of a handful of tellers that was scheduled to open the bank one morning. As I drove towards the bank and into the parking lot, there were police cars and police (with guns drawn!) everywhere. I parked next to the branch manager and found out there was a take over in the bank about 10 minutes earlier. Two tellers were held up at gunpoint, tied up, and left in the vault.

Needless to say, I quit the same week. No job…even one where I was making a whopping $8.50 an hour…was worth my life!

And so it goes…

OMG, that is SO scary! I'm so glad you quit!

I am with you on the laundry. I have pretty much avoided it big time this week and I feel like tomorrow will be spent doing laundry ALL day. :-(

If you see me online, kick me off and tell me to go to laundry!
  2. Allyson & Jere says:
As always, LOVE your flip offs.

And for the love, that is QUITE the ending to your bank robbery story. Good grief!

You are a rockity rock star with 300 followers, and only THREE MONTHS blogging. That is awesome.
  3. Wow. Not even sure what to respond to. This one is packed!! Don't blame you for quitting that bank gig. I wouldn't have stuck it out as long as you.

To flip offs. Great as usual. To mommy guilt- FLIP OFF from me too. Know that you are not alone. We do the best we can and have to hope that it's enough. In case you missed it in my last post, I had to give myself a timeout this week. I had a bit of a meltdown and needed a breather. Thank the Lord for new days and fresh starts and forgiving kiddos that love you regardless.
  4. Oh, and congrats on all the success. That's really great! You have come a long way in such a short time. I've been blogging for a couple years now and just joined SITS recently. I am loving all my new bloggy friends, but it is certainly a change from before. I had like 12 followers for about 1 1/2 years (mostly family and close friends) and it was ok too.
  5. Hey there and I just want to say WOW! 3 months, 100 posts and over 300 friends - you are a blog star! I've been blogging about as long, am up to 30 something posts, 23 friends and never enough hours in the day! (So yes I join you in the laundry flip-off double time). Loved the banking stories - I'd have quite too!
  6. Wow, again. I'm pretty sure I would have quit, too. Holy cow. That story is just crazy.

And - I LOVE your flip-offs, as always!!

    Have a great weekend!
  7. mom guilt....yes flip off! why do we suffer from this, it's just not fair!
that robbery just tramatized me now, i won't work at a bank anytime soon!
  8. Pumpkin and Piglet says:
I wanted to know some more about the robbery story. I don't blame you for quitting, I'd have done the same thing!

I'll join you on flipping off the mummy guilt! I don't know why we put so much pressure on ourselves but we all do it. We all need to try and remember we are not superhuman, just mummies trying to get through each day and do the best we can!

And congrats on the 300 friends! That's a lot in 3 months but you write a really good blog so it's not surprising really :)
  9. CourtneyKeb says:
My laundry hasn't been done in a million years either. Really I've been grabbing for outfits out of laundry baskets for days it seems.

and WOW @ The bank story!
    that's traumatic!
  10. Sharlene T. says:
Great story!...(Go do your laundry!)...you have followers because you write so well and make life fun and interesting, while still making your point...I LOVE the idea of flip-off Fridays...thanks for sharing...
  11. The Sharp's says:
Wow! Good for you for quitting and what a blessing that you weren't early to work that day!

I'm flipping off mommy guilt with you! It likes to get the best of me as well!
  12. I am still amazed at your blog growth and still waiting for you to share your secrets :) this is awesome. that you are doing it with babies, when I had absolutely no time, further astounds me!

get rid of those bedposts and mommy guilt. you've got some fun time you need to truly enjoy! :)
  13. pegbur7 says:
WOW... now that's an ending. I think I would have quit too.

How do you get so many followers? That is insane! In 3 months? Congrats!!!
  14. My laundry has not been done for 3 or 4 days now, thanks to my stupid half bath/laundry room that I'm trying to turn red and flippin' off today!
  15. I am seriously considering outsourcing laundry duty. :-)
  16. Lula Lola says:
Oh my gosh! That was the certainly your warning! I don't think I'd even want a checking account after all that!
  17. What bank was this? Because I certainly think I should maybe take my money elsewhere. I had no idea this was so common.

And as for mom guilt I've got two fingers and some toes for it. What an insidious little emotion.
  18. Love reading Friday Flip offs! Happy Potluck Friday.
  19. Oh!!! I'm beyond excited about Part 2 of the robbery! You could make a Lifetime movie out of your experiences! And I'm adoring your flips this week...stupid laundry. Congrats for tackling yours...mine is still piled in the corner, slowly inching it's way to the machine. Have a great weekend!
  20. Laundry doesn't end. ever. I don't blame you for quitting the bank gig.

I worked with a bank robber once so once again you have inspired a post Natalie. I will never quit reading your blog! Congrats on 300 followers. Have fun on your trip and are you still taking the Alli?
  21. MommaKiss says:
Suuuuuure the bruises are from the bed posts. Uh huh. SURE ;)
You know I share the big Eff Off to the mom guilt. Its a total a-hole.
Thanks for the shouts! You really have kicked majorr butt in a short time.
  22. Lindsey says:
Congrats on getting 300 Followers! That is so awesome!

I flip off laundry every day! I have some waiting on me right now that I am putting off hoping my cleaning fairies will come do it lol
  23. amazing! I'm at over 200 posts, but still working toward 300 followers! You go girl!

How many hours a day do you do this thing!
    Congrats!
  24. Karen Mortensen says:
Wow. Good thing you got to the bank latter.
  25. Kristin @ Peace, Love and Muesli says:
I am with you on all 3. Laundry, bed posts and guilt. Flip off from me too!
    I would have quit too.
  26. Megan (Best of Fates) says:
Good thing you quit - clearly the karma of you + banks was not good!

And I hate, hate, hate how laundry is like that.

    Stupid laundry.
  27. I'd like to flip off tantrums if its all the same to you.
  28. One Love Mama says:
I'm doing so good right now with the laundry, it has helped for me to stick myself with a schedule... not let it pile up (which I'm often guilty of).
    Happy Friday Flip Off :-)
  29. Aging Mommy says:
My mother always says things happen in threes and so often she is proved right, so I am glad you left the bank before incident number three could ever happen! Two was more than enough!
  30. Mrs.Mayhem says:
Wow! 100 posts and 300 followers are certainly items to celebrate!
  31. The Flying Chalupa says:
I can't believe you only have three things to flip off! I have a list of dozens. But the mom guilt. It's comforting to know that everyone has it. And those who don't probably aren't good mothers.

And congrats on the blog milestones! Only 100 more followers and I'm fairly certain you could conquer a small island nation.
  32. Laurie Wallin says:
Oh, the flip-offs. Such a GREAT way to say it. I totally get you with the mom guilt... and the bedposts! But for me it's this nasty little coffee table in my living room. I swear the thing is out to get me.

Glad to find a kindred spirit online. I've got a toddler, a preschooler, and two older girls adopted from foster care. All little monsters in their own rights... lovable, wild, silly, messy, infuriating, and mine :).

Thanks for the post. I'm a follower and I listed you as a #funnymoms weekly highlight on Twitter!

Oh my gosh! I am so glad you quit! PHEW! Good call about your life being way more valuable than $8.50 an hour!

I need to flip off laundry as well!
  34. hayidan says:
    LAundry definately suckks ;)
  35. therapyfree says:
Yay, flip offs! Mom guilt is the worst. You've got a cute blog :)
  36. That is so scary, but you're really brave to have handled the situation so well! Good for you for quitting - sounds like that job was SO not worth it!
  37. blueviolet says:
I agree! Too much for $8.50!!!!

I thought I was the only one who was constantly peppered with bruises!
  38. Katie's Dailies says:
Thanks for not leaving us all hanign like that about the robbery. I agree---better you quit and look for a safer job, like being a momma!

We had a high kitchen counter in our old house that had it out for me. I think I had a permanent bruise on my tricep the entire time we lived there!
  39. Yikes - that's scary stuff being help up at the bank!

Also, I can totally relate to the Mommy guilt thing, I guess all us Moms can. I was feeling pretty on edge with my little one all day today and kept beating myself up for it, but we all have those days. So hard to stay patient sometimes!
  40. I would like to know why all bedposts find it necessary to use and abuse their owners. I have the same problem with my legs. It doesn't matter...I"m pretty sure the bed moves just so I run into it!
  41. Kristi {at} Live and Love...Out Loud says:
Congratulations on your blogging success! That's really exciting. :) As for the laundry, mommy guilt and bed posts...I'd like to join in and say FLIP OFF to them too!
I'm glad you were safe during the robbery at the bank. That's such a scary experience. My mother was held at gun point, tied up and blindfolded during a robbery at the store she managed. Luckily she wasn't hurt. It's still a scary experience nonetheless!
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a fabulous weekend. :)

    @TweetingMama
  42. Paul and Kerry says:
I run into our bed posts all the time too! My big toenail is black because of that.

And wow about the bank robbery! I would of quit too.

congrats on 3 months and all 300 friends! awesome! We will hit 6 months in about a week and can't believe it. it is so fun and i love making new friends like you. :)
  43. Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points says:
I'm gonna flip off the laundry too.

    Yeesh.

If it could just keep from overtaking MY BED at least. (cause this is where the kids dump it - how thoughtful.)

    But no.

Perhaps we will sleep on the floor.
  44. Babes about Town says:
Friday Flip-offs sounds like a great idea. I give laundry the permanent two-fingered salute (it's a Brit thing...the flip-off style, not the lack of laundry doing).

As for the mummy guilt, feel it (it's inevitable), then toss it over your shoulder and keep on rolling. You deserve an everyday high 10 for mothering three little ones, finding time to blog and maintain some level of sanity. Congrats on your success so far. Rock on.
