Remember this past summer when I went camping for 8 days with the kids but without Jason? Crazy, I know. It was a lot of work but it was worth it – the kids had a blast with all of the family and we have memories that we’ll always remember. It’s going to become an annual trip, and the kids are still asking how long until we go again. We loved it. So when I was given the opportunity to try a family board game called CAMP, I thought it would be a perfect fit!
The premise is simple: Each person chooses their piece and places it on a seat around the campfire. During their turn players draw a card and attempt to answer the trivia question that corresponds with their skill level. If the correct answer is given, the player rolls again. If not, the next player takes a turn as they race around the board to be the first to arrive back in camp.
There are four different levels of questions – from the level one Tenderfoot to the level four Nature Enthusiast. We played level one, though what’s cool about it is that each player could choose a different level to play. So while the level one questions might have been hard for the kids, I could have played a different level.
The game is designed to grow with the players, so as the kids get older, they can move to different levels and still be challenged by the game – it’s a game they won’t outgrow! Level one questions are primarily the identification of animals. Each level’s questions get harder, with broader topics like wildlife, camping skills and other outdoor trivia. It’s a fun & educational game, and includes 400 questions and 99 fun facts about nature and the outdoors.
The game is for ages 4+, however I think it was a little too advanced for even Ethan (he’s 5). I ended up having to make the majority of the questions much more simple for him to be able to answer them. We still had fun, and I look forward to playing it next year while on vacation with the entire family…I think it will be lots of fun!
Would I recommend this game to nature lovin’ family and friends? Absolutely. As I said, even if the questions were too hard, we were still able to play the game. The kids loved all the questions about animals. I love that this isn’t a game I’ll have to get rid of in a year because they won’t outgrow it. It’s fun. It’s educational. It can be played with for years.
