Do You Tattoo?

No, I do not have a tattoo on my head, but that’s one patriotic tattoee right there!
So….do you tattoo? I have a prettty big tattoo on the inside of my left ankle. I’ve mentioned that before. It’s actually my second tattoo. The first one I got when I was eighteen. It was tiny. A little heart with some ivy trailing off of it. The next one was much bigger, and covered the tiny little tattoo that was my first.
My cousin is a tattooer. About ten years ago, I took him a picture of what I wanted…the Chinese symbol for love:
Why? Because family is so important to me and because love symbolizes that….for me, anyways. Why didn’t I just get the symbol for family? Because I didn’t like it as much!
Anyways, the tattoo is there and it means a lot to me for many reasons. I won’t go into all the details of when he gave me the tattoo, but let’s just say it’s a lot bigger and has a lot more going on than I really wanted. And I had waaayyy too many beers to be getting tattooed and making decisions of what would be permanently etched into my body for all of eternity. Bad story, and not one I want to relive!
I have four siblings and my mom and dad are still married (going on 37 years!). Out of the 7 of us, 4 of us have tattoos: me, my Sister H, my youngest brother, and my mom. Yep, my mom only has one, but it’s a BIG one! The rest of us have multiple tattoos.
Anybody that has gotten a tattoo before is in one of two boats: regret it and hate it -OR- love it and need another one. I fall into the second boat, and I’m now contemplating tattoo number three. One that will incorporate all of my kids names into it.
The next one is going in between my shoulder blades and will be a pretty big tattoo. With the kids names in it. Something that can be there forever that will never lose its value or meaning. Hubby HATES tattoos and really, strongly (without telling me “NO”) prefers that I do not get another one. I wonder what the kids will think of my tattoos when they are older? Hmmm….
So, who’s got tattoos? How does your husband/significant other feel about them? Would you get another one? Dish!
In separate news…thanks to the Bloggers Club for featuring me on their blog yesterday! It was a very pleasant surprise and kicked my weekend off to a good start! Go check it out!
And so it goes..

I love tattoo's but can't have one. I have psoriasis so the tattooist won't touch me as new patches can flare up from skin breaks! My husband has a couple and 2 of my cousins (male) are addicted and have both arms covered. I think when they're done well they look fantastic!

Hi! Stopping by from MBC. Great blog.

    Have a nice day!
  3. Christine says:
I have one tattoo, and hubs is meh about it. He mentioned at one time getting one of those armbands, but we shall see. (I don't think he will, b/c the dude can't handle the pain:)

Now that the kids are all of age, we've been talking about getting matching ones. It'll probably be a shamrock to symbolize the irish (part) trinity that they are. We just can't seem to come to an agreement on the size and location. I really don't care as long as it's not on my forehead.
  4. I got my first one when I was 17..its a kinda flower...wish I didn't get it but..oh well. Then my second one is on my neck...it is a celtic cross with a dangling(sp)chain. That one is for my mom...my sisters and by bil all have the same one in their own version.
I think I would be inclined to get will's initials but I know lew would freak..he hates them.
Do you watch LA Ink? Those guys are so talented!
  5. Funky Mama Bird says:
I have three and am planning on a fourth for my son. My only problem with this next one is that I want to put it in an area that I feel connects with him. Unfortunately he has a habit of licking, grabbing and banging his head into those areas. :p

One of my brothers has a sleeve, and my father, whose work nickname is The Glenn Reaper has a grim reaper tattoo on his arm that he got a few years ago.
  6. no tatts for me...but i have thought about it. my husband has 2 - one he had when we met, and one much larger one he got around 8yrs ago. i enjoy them on other people. good for you for being able to get one even though your hubby doesn't really like them!
  7. Monica Fernaays says:
I do not current have a tatto, but would like one to represent my 3 children. I just have to get the nerve up to do it! Husband doesn't care!! Love'n your posts!!
  8. Sippy Cup Mom says:
I really want to get one but my husband doesn't like them. I may get one anyway! ;-) I would love to get my son's initials on my wrist, which are the same initials as my husbands too.
  9. Paul and Kerry says:
none for me. I doubt i would ever get one. Just not my thing but I do think it's cool to hear the stories behind people's tattoos.
  10. Kristin Glasbergen says:
I have an anklet tattoo. I'd like to cover it with another one. I wasn't sure it was possible but clearly it is. Good news! My husband doesn't have one but he will likely draw my new one.
  11. I don't have one, but have thought about it. I'm just too indecisive. Pretty sure I would end up in that first boat of peeps who got one but later regretted it. Instead, I've got a couple of pieces of jewelry that represent to me what tattoos might represent if I had them instead. This suits me perfectly, as I can take them on and off at will.

My sister has two tattoos, the latest is our father's initials (in his handwriting) on the inside of her wrist. It's very cool.
  12. I always feel like I'm stealing ideas for posts when I come over here (sorry). I'll just put it on my idea list. I had a full blown panic attack in Vegas when I tried to get a tattoo, so I never went through with it.

You surprise me though. I didn't peg you for a large tattoo girl. I thought more of a discreet inside of the wrist, top of the foot, or small ankle would be more your style, but we've never met actually met! I like tattoo's on other people. I just can't seem to do it myself.

You are still talking me right?
  13. The Sharp's says:
I don't have any. My husband has one. He would LOVE if I got one. I just haven't seen or come up with anything that I really love. My mom and I are the only ones in our family that don't have them. My sister has 3. One she just covered with another one. I don't care for it, but her other one looks great.
  14. NanaDiana says:
Well, I don't have any tatoos but it doesn't bother me that others have them. I always thought it would be REALLY cool if someone that was bald had a face tatooed on the BACK of their head! Whaddyathink?
  15. No tatoos. I think I'm a big chicken. But gotta say, I'm not at all offended by them, just didn't take ya for a big tattoo kinda gal. I'm learning so much. :)
  16. Dazee Dreamer says:
I have 2 tattoos. Got my first when I was 51. Little butterflies for my grandkids. Got my 2nd about 6 months later, larger butterflies for my 3 kids. I love them. Thought I would never get them, but now I'm wanting another. As you can tell I'm into butterlfies. I have found the picture of the next one I want to get, but also want to add my husbands name in chinese or japanese symbols into it somehow. Plus I need to decide where to put it. The other ones are on the outside of my upper calves.

My husband didn't know I was getting them until after I got them. Didn't want to here him protest. He doesn't mind them, and my kids and grandkids love them.
  17. I don't have any, but I totally agree with you on the 2 boats front. SO true!
  18. Tennessee Mom says:
My husband bought mine for my first birthday after we had our son. Its a chinese phoenix to symbolize my own rebirth as a mom and entering a new phase in my life. Its about 3-inch square on my outer ankle.

That was 7 years ago and I'd love to get another one, but I need to have this one touched up first. The colors have faded a bit and I have a few "bald" spots from getting attacked by chiggers the day after I got it.
  19. Ms. Understood says:
I love tattoos. I have two and I want more. I have them in discreet places (got to keep it professional).
  20. One Love Mama says:
I have a tattoo or as it's now called a 'tramp stamp'. I was only 17 and rushed into it, wanting to express my independence. It's pretty small, a pink cherry blossom. Lucky for me it's hidden well, and most people don't even know it's there.
  21. I tattoo. I have a quarter sized dragonfly on my foot and a tree full of butterflys on my shoulder.
  22. Allyson & Jere says:
I detest tatoos. Can we still be friends, 'cause I like you and all.

Sorry, I just have never liked them. I find them distracting and sometimes disturbing. And, I hear they're kind of painful to get. But mostly, when you're 80 and wrinkly and stuff, they just do NOT look so good. haha
  23. Ok, Ok...I do have a tattoo...and it is pretty big for a first tatoo...but come on...it's not that big! :) It's a rose that says "FAMILY" because it is important to me too! When I showed it to your Nana and Papa, Natalie, I justified it with the comment (and it's true) "Father And Mother I Love You." By the way, Natalie and I were tattooed by the same person - my nephew - her cousin. I do want to get another tattoo...just not sure what or when or where I want to put it. Maybe an Angel with the words "Believe"....
  24. Oh...and congratulations on your featured blog...you're awesome!
  25. I have no tatoos; fear factor prohibits me from even thinking about them...has to be worse than ear piercing, right? I love the idea of incorporating your children's names. Notice, on YOU. I am sure I'd admire it if I saw it in person.

Now off to read your featured blog. Congrats!
  26. Christy says:
I hate tattoos. Growing up, my mother dated a tattoo artist. I hated that man. He gave my mom multiple BIG tattoos, which I also hated.

So, I have no tattoos. My husband has one, and I hate it.
  27. I have 3: a spiral of life on my back, a venus star on my right abdomen and the symbol for "be". my partner has some of his own! :) I can't justify buying any more but liked getting them when I was younger!
  28. Meggles says:
I have nine tattoos. My favorite one is my half sleeve. It's pictures from the Hubble space telescope.
  29. If SHE can figure it out.......... says:
My sister and I were going to get shamrocks on our left hip, but dad had a good point when he said "after you have kids, that shamrock will look like an oak tree". Also, I don't like pain, so tattoos are our for me.
  30. Natasha says:
I have three, love them all. The first was right after the birth of my oldest(16 years ago), 2nd is a huge tribal on my side, wanted something to make people say "DAMN", and the third is 3 stars on my lower back, one for each of my girls.
  31. 3 and wanting number 4. I love tattoos! Hubby doesn't want me completely covered and and nothing on the face. Neither do I, but that's the only vote he gets.
  32. Megan M. says:
I have 3 - one on the back of my right hip, one on my right shoulder blade, and one on the front of my left hip. I LOVE them, and know what I want next, but am waiting for the right financial time. :) My husband does not like tattoos, does not want me to get more, but won't go so far as to tell me "No" - not that I would listen!
