Brancott Estate Flight Song Wines: Finally, A Low Cal Wine!

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Brancott Estate Flight Song Wines. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

It’s been almost a month since I’ve posted here on my blog. A month?! That’s crazy…where did that time go? Well, between the kids being off for two weeks for spring break, a trip to Palm Springs, Easter and some home renovations, apparently the month just flew by. Another exciting thing happened: I found some low calorie wine that is just as tasty as regular wine. I found Brancott Estate Flight Song Wines.

Looking for a low calorie wine? Brancott Estate Flight Song wine is for you. These full flavored, easy drinking, casual wines are tasty and refreshing.

Brancott Estate hails from New Zealand and their line includes Flight Song wines. These wines are light, refreshing, crisp, and tasty, AND have 20% fewer calories compared to their other wines.  I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and one bottle of Marlborough Pinot Grigio.

If you are a fan of grapefruit, the Brancott Estate Flight Song Sauvignon Blanc is for you. And for me. You can smell the grapefruit and it’s the first flavor that hits your palate and it travels all the way through to the finish. It’s a citrus-y, refreshing, full flavored delight and would be perfect to sip around the pool.

But by far my favorite was the Brancott Estate Flight Song Pinot Grigio. While I’m not normally a huge fan of white wines, this one was a winner for me. It’s also full of citrus and is very refreshing. There are major notes of white peach, too. And the label mentions guava, but I didn’t get that. This is one of those wines that from the first sip I gave it two thumbs up. It was like summer in a glass. It would be perfect to sip around the pool or at a lunch date with friends. It was a palate pleaser for sure.

Overall I would say give both wines a shot…and remember, this is coming from somebody who isn’t a huge white wine lover. These are easy drinking, casual wines that you can drink without feeling guilty because they are also lower in calories.

Connect with Brancott Estate Wines on Facebook and Twitter – I’m hoping that they’ll be coming up with a low cal Pinot Noir soon! And if you’re a wine lover, check out my All Wine, All The Time board on Pinterest.

Wine Chateau Wine Reviews: Good Wine, Easy Buying!

Disclosure: Thanks to the Wine Chateau for providing me with a bottle of each of these fantastic wines. All opinions expressed are my own.

wine_review_from_wine_chateau If you have been reading my blog for any length of time you know two things about me: that I am a huge fan of wine and that I love red wines…big, bold red wines. I’ve told you before about Wine Chateau and the amazing selection of wines that they have. They recently sent me a few bottles to try out. A couple of weeks ago, my family and I headed to Kludgy Mom’s place to spend the weekend with them. I thought it would be the perfect time to bust out the wine and get several opinions!

Wine Chateau Wine Reviews

Domaine De La CharbonniereDomaine De La Charbonniere Cuvee Mourre Des Perdrix Chateauneuf Du Pape 2007 – That’s quite a mouthful, huh?! I gotta tell you, I’m a sucker for a beautiful label and bottle of wine…even before I know what it tastes like. And this bottle is stunning.

The wine is swoon-worthy…it’s not a cheap bottle of wine, but worth every penny. It’s easy to drink and would make a perfect special occasion gift.

The wine is made from grapes that come from 80 year old vines. It’s a blend of Grenache (90-95%) and Mourvedre (5-10%). Just one sip and I was in love! It’s smooth and velvety on the palate, with a long finish. That boldness I love so much sticks with you and it’s hard to put it down. Lots of tannins and punch (not sure what tannins are? Check out my  What are Tannins? post for a thorough description). A perfect Natalie wine!

I could taste berries and cherries, as well as other spices. This one got a two thumbs up from me, and from others that tried it. Note to self: Next time don’t share this one!

You can purchase a bottle of this beautiful wine at Wine Chateau (Psst! It’s on sale right now for $34.97…regularly priced $57.98!)

Benziger Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 – This wine is an easy drinking, kick back and enjoy a couple of glasses with friends kind of wine. It goes down smoothly with a nice finish, and makes you want to take another sip. It’s one of those wines that’s really affordable but tastes like it cost a fortune.

wine_review_from_wine_chateau You’ll taste and smell flavors and scents of blackberry, spice and hints of vanilla and black currant. It may sound sweet-tasting, but it’s actually not at all.

There’s not much I can say about this wine other than we all liked it! It would make a great everyday wine, but you can also pour it for guests and have them think it cost a lot more than you paid for it.

Priced at $14.97 a bottle, it’s worth picking up more than just one or two! Head over to Wine Chateau to purchase a bottle for your next hang out with friends.

wine_review_from_wine_chateauEstancia Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 – I like my wine finish to linger…to remind you it’s still there after you’ve taken the glass away from your lips, and this Cab doesn’t disappoint!

The Estancia Cab has a reach, deep color and swirls beautifully in the glass. You’ll smell rich and fruity aromas of black cherry and taste chocolate, vanilla, and currants. I love the spicy, peppery notes (remember, I like ’em bold!) You’ll note the velvety tannins and  a long finish.

This one is also a great value for a great wine. Last time we were in Paso Robles, we actually visited this winery and I remember how much I liked this wine when I tried it there.

Pick up Estancia Cab at Wine Chateau for just $12.97 a bottle! Pretty good bang for your buck!

Another reason I’m such a fan of Wine Chateau is because you get free shipping if you buy a case of wine from them, and you can mix and match. So make sure to check out all of the great wines they offer. Join their mailing list and you will get $10 off of shipping even if you don’t order a case.

Are you a fan of big, bold red wines like I am? What is your favorite? If you are looking for new ones to try, all three of the wines reviewed here were hits!

Wine Review: Riondo Amarone

wine_review_riondo_amarone Have you ever drank a wine that made you think that it was so good you never wanted to drink any other wine ever again? Yeah, me neither. But if one wine ever came close, it would be Riondo Amarone DOC. Here’s a wine review of one of my new favorite wines.

Wine Review: Riondo Amarone

Now you may not have heard of Amarone before, so I’ll tell you a bit about it. It’s full name is Amarone della Valpolicella, and it’s a rich Italian dry red wine made grapes of the Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara varieties. In short, it’s a blend of many different grapes.

Interestingly, the name Amarone translates to “the Great Bitter” in Italian. This doesn’t mean it’s actually bitter; this was how it was distinguished from the Recioto produced in the same region, which is sweeter in taste.

Now on to the actual wine review. As I  mentioned, I kind of love this wine. I love my wines big and bold, and this one delivers. It smells beautifully; of berries and spices and currants.

It’s full-bodied and leaves a really long finish. So long that I could savor it after just a sip. It’s clean and silky – while I mentioned it’s bold, it doesn’t have a lot of tannins (Not sure what tannins are? Check out my What are Tannins? post for a thorough description).

It’s fruity and spicy and heavenly. This Amarone gets two thumbs up from me, and I highly recommend you try it yourself!

Head over to Wine Chateau to purchase a bottle of Riondo Amarone. If you have tried it, you can add a wine review of your own. And you are in luck! It’s regularly priced at $32.98 a bottle, however it’s on sale right now for $19.97!

You get free shipping if you buy a case of wine from them, and you can mix and match. So make sure to check out all of the great wines they offer. I also did a wine review of Schild Estate’s Shiraz Barossa and you can purchase that wine at Wine Chateau as well. Join their mailing list and you will get $10 off of shipping if you don’t order a case.

Are you a fan of big, bold red wines? What is your favorite?

Review of STACKED Wines & Why I Love It

Only feel like one glass of wine? No problem! Stacked Wines come in 4 separate cup sized containers so your wine won't spoil. It’s no secret I’m a wine lover…I even co-founded Have Wine, Will Drink with Gigi from KludgyMom. One of our “jobs” was to find new wines to introduce to women, and while we no longer have our wine site, I still love sharing everything about wine. And I’m excited to tell you about STACKED Wines!

STACKED wine is fine wine pre-poured into four stemless plastic wine glasses, stacked on top of each other, and then sold to wine lovers everywhere. Why is this so cool? Well let’s say you’re a woman who occasionally wants a glass of wine but doesn’t want to open up and drink the entire bottle…I do not understand this concept, but  follow me here people…this is the perfect solution. Or maybe you are going on a picnic, to a concert or somewhere else where you don’t want to lug around a bottle of wine, a corkscrew, and wine glasses. STACKED is the solution.

Only feel like one glass of wine? No problem! Stacked Wines come in 4 separate cup sized containers so your wine won't spoil.

See what I mean? The glasses pull apart from each other and each has a foil seal covering the top. You pull the foil off, and voila! You’ve got a glass of wine! The “glasses” were designed by engineers to offer the look and feel of a wine glass, and the materials also protect the wine from oxidation and spoilage. The high-quality material is shatterproof and lightweight. I saved the glasses to use again when we’re outside so I don’t have to worry about my good wine glasses getting knocked over and broken. I’m green like that (all materials are recyclable, by the way). A 4-pack has the same volume, 750 ml, as a traditional bottle of wine.

Enough about the cool packaging, which is what originally drew me to the wine,  this wine is tasty! STACKED’s wines were selected by their in-house sommelier (or the guy that knows his wine for all of you non-winos), and they are refreshing, fruit forward, and reflect the true flavor profiles for each varietal.

The Chardonnay was just delicious. You could definitely taste the fruitiness of it (I could taste apple!), yet it wasn’t too sweet or overpowering. One of the reasons I love a good Chardonnay is for its butteriness, and I picked up on that right away.

The Merlot was so mellow and relaxing! I could taste berries, and a hint of oak but it wasn’t overpowering at all. It was lovely.

Would I recommend STACKED wines? Absolutely! And I will be purchasing them again myself! You can purchase STACKED wines online, or at your favorite grocery store. What a unique gift idea for wine lovers.

So head on over to STACKED and check out their site!

Looking For The Perfect Holiday Wine? I Can Help

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of The California Wine Club, I’ve promoted them here on my own blog, we’ve featured them over at Have Wine, Will Drink, and I’ve also written about them over at and So yes, I’m a huge fan!

And when I got my third shipment from The California Wine Club right before Thanksgiving, I was really excited about it.  I knew that they would be sending wines that would compliment a holiday meal, and I was sure they’d be good ones. And I was right…only, they were better than I thought they would be!

The Tulip Hill Cabepulciano was a-ma-zing. It is hearty enough to stand up to a heavy meal full of meat and carbs, but has a smooth finish with  notes of cinnamon and vanilla. It reminds me a lot of Cupcake’s Red Velvet wine – one of my personal favorites. My husband and I enjoyed being introduced to this unique wine blend (it’s 50% Cabernet Sauvingnon and 50% Montepulcian), and even more, I found a new winery full of wines I can’t wait to try out!

And while I’m not a huge fan of white wines, an occasional glass of Chardonnay with a meal is wonderful…as was the Tulip Hill 2009 Reserve Chardonnay. This is a rich and balanced wine with a very creamy finish…and very buttery (exactly how I like my Chardonnay!). Perfect for curling up under a warm blanket and relaxing.

I have thoroughly enjoyed receiving wines each month for the last three months from The California Wine Club, and think it’s a perfect gift for those hard-to-buy-for people and those people who already have everything (like my dad…this would be a perfect gift for him!)

I also like that you can hop online and order a membership without having to fight the crowds at the mall or needing to decide what types of wine to buy…they take care of that for you. It is such a convenient way to order wine, to come up with a last minute gift, or to give during the holidays to those you know who love wine. I have recommended and will continue to recommend The California Wine Club to any and everybody who will listen to me!

But you should try it too! The California Wine Club wants to offer you a special 10% discount on every gift order you place! Just use the code: monstertwins at checkout. In addition to receiving a 10% discount on any gifts you order from the site, if you decide to sign-up for a Wine Club Membership yourself, you will receive a 10% discount on their first month of membership and a free bottle of wine in your first month’s shipment!

Have you heard about my Santa Photos link up? There are a ton of giveaways that you will love…how about free wine, free cake pops and more? Check it out!

And if you haven’t seen it yet, I have a giveaway with Honey Girl Organics that you DO NOT want to miss!

One last thing…I have a poll going on right now on Facebook about whether or not to keep going with my Mommy Moments at the Monster…would you please head over to Mommy of a Monster on Facebook and respond?

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Spark Media on behalf of California Wine Club and received a free three-month membership to facilitate my review and thank me for taking the time to participate. All opinions expressed are my own.
