I’m Talking About the Big 4-0 At Facing 40!

In March I’m going to be turning the big 4-0. The number isn’t an issue for me – it’s just a number. What I’m having a hard time with is everything that comes with the number: the sagging, the wrinkles, and all the other fun things that go hand-in-hand with aging. So I decided to talk about it.

I’m at one of my favorite blogger’s places talking about changes that come with the big 4-0. My friend Poppy asked me to guest post at her place Facing 40 and of course I couldn’t say no.

One of the things I’m focusing on right now is my health. Not just trying to get in shape to look great in a bathing suit, but trying to get in shape because it’s the right thing to do. My body needs it…my stress level needs it!

So head over to Poppy’s place to read more. Later this week I’ll be sharing more about this, too. I’m in it for the long haul!

Weight Watchers Simple Start App Gave Me The Help I Needed!

I was given a free one-month subscription to try the new Simple Start plan and write about my experience.  Though I was compensated for my time and commitment, all views, positive and negative are my own.

As I am sitting here writing this, I am also eating my breakfast:

If you are ready to lose weight, try the Weight Watchers Simple Start app. It is full of healthy, tasty recipes that will leave you full! #lovehealthyme

Well, it was supposed to be an omelet but I can’t make an omelet to save my life. So let’s call it a scramble. Yep, this is my “diet” breakfast, more food than I can eat! Eggs scrambled with cheese, bell peppers, mushrooms, green onions, and spinach (I add spinach to everything)…and even toast! It doesn’t look like diet food, and it doesn’t taste like diet food. This is why I love the Weight Watchers Simple Start App.

I’m turning 40 next month, so at the beginning of the year I decided it was time to really focus on me…taking better care of myself not because I want to lose weight or look great in a bikini (but seriously, those are both big bonuses), but because I need to take better care of myself. I can’t live on junk food, wine, and no exercise, I know this. And I want to live long enough to see my kids have kids – and if I’m lucky like my Nana, to see my kids’ kids have kids. So I had to change my whole outlook on the way I treat my body.

So yes, I started exercising and eating healthy – and that’s where the problem came in. I’m one of those people who have never had to watch what I eat. Before the kids, I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted without gaining any weight. This is no longer the case. And therein lies the problem: I don’t know how to eat healthy because I’ve never had to do it.

If you are ready to lose weight, try the Weight Watchers Simple Start app. It is full of healthy, tasty recipes that will leave you full! #lovehealthyme

When I was given the opportunity to try Weight Watchers Simple Start, I jumped at the chance. Because Weight Watchers helps people get healthy in a healthy way.

I love breakfast! This one is yogurt, strawberries, cinnamon, and shredded wheat.

What is Weight Watchers Simple Start? It’s a two week starter plan for people who are new to Weight Watchers or current members who want to get their motivation going again. The app is simple – it helps you choose from a variety of nutritious, satisfying foods (also called Weight Watchers Power Foods.)

All you have to do is pick from a list of good-for-you foods and start losing weight. You can choose from 55 meals and snacks. There are even swaps and flavor boosts to choose from. Want to cheat? That’s okay too! There’s a section devoted to “Indulgences” so you can have…wait for it…WINE if you’d like! Or half ‘n half with your coffee! And cheese! All kinds of things I am not willing to give up!

Now what I love about this app is that it’s full of meals that I will actually eat because I don’t feel like I’m being deprived of anything. I’ve tried several different recipes (the egg salad is my favorite lunch) and haven’t found one yet that I didn’t like.

So back to the breakfast…I know not everybody has time to make an omelet for breakfast while trying to get kids to school and then out the door to work. If you can’t make that happen, you can still have this breakfast! My mini quiches are basically the same thing (just use fat-free cheese and no bacon) and they freeze great!

I’m eating really tasty food, I get to cheat, and there’s nothing off limits. This? Is the perfect way for me to live. And any plan that lets me still “cheat” with a yummy treat like these apples is okay in my book!

I plan to keep using Weight Watchers Simple Start because it works. I’m not starving and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on eating throughout the day. If you need help with healthy eating, it’s worth checking out! You can find Weight Watchers on Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. They share lots of great food and exercise tips!

Looking for a Workout Video? Try Sara Haley’s Sweat Unlimited

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the Sweat Unlimited workout video to facilitate this review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I know, I know…you can’t believe I’m actually on a diet. After all, the last couple of days I’ve done nothing but blog about wine, wine glasses, and delectable cooking from scratch recipes. But I can indulge occasionally because I’ve been working out like a crazy woman and trying to get myself back into shape! And so that I can have a glass of wine or a sinful snack, I have been using Sara Haley’s Sweat Unlimited workout video.

Sweat Unlimited Workout Video

Now I am already doing an exercise program that keeps me sweating 5 days a week. But on my free days, I like to mix things up and try out new workouts that keep me interested and on my toes. The Sweat Unlimited workout video does that.

Whether I have just a few minutes or an hour to spare, there’s a workout on the DVD for me. Workouts range from 5 to 45 minutes, so you really have no excuse to not get moving. It’s fast paced to keep your heart rate up and burn more calories more quickly. It’s perfect if you are a busy mom with no extra time to spend for hours at the gym.

Better yet, you don’t even have to go to the gym to get in great shape. These workouts were designed for the fit and healthy woman who is looking to stay active and energized during a busy day. Only have time for one workout in the morning? No problem. Choose another one to do in the evening.

Here is what you will get:

There are 4 different workouts with a bonus stretch routine and a mix and match option menu.

    • Sweat Extreme 5: Trigger, Tone, and Tighten: 5 minutes of Sara’s most effective and energizing exercises that wake up, strengthen and challenge your entire body.
    • Sweat Strength 15: Burn, Baby, Burn: 15 minutes of total body sculpting that keeps your heart rate up and your muscles burning
    • Sweat Cardio 30: Pop, Rock and Drop: 30 minutes of fat-burning cardio drills consisting of moves inspired by the dance club, rock ‘n roll and break dancing (plus a warm up and a cool down)
    • Sweat Box 45: 45 minutes of Tabata-inspired intervals that alternate between boxing drills and core exercises to give you a metabolic burn and core blast
    • BONUS: Sweat Stretch 5: Reach, Relax, and Rejuvenate: 5 minutes to breathe, stretch and relax as  you focus on decreasing muscle soreness

My favorites so far are the Sweat Extreme 5, which makes for a great warm up, and Sweat Stretch 5, which I’ve been using daily to end all my workouts. Sweat Strength 15 really does make it burn, and Sweat Box 45 is a hard core workout that will have you feeling on top of the world. I’ll be honest, cardio isn’t my thing, but the Cardio 30 is a pretty fun workout!

Here’s a peak at what you can expect out of Sweat Unlimited…

Are you ready to sweat? Head over and purchase the Sweat Unlimited workout video for yourself. Follow Sarah Haley on Facebook and Twitter too! No more excuses…you can do this!

Revolt Fitness Program: First Uprising Results

I made it through my first Revolt Fitness Program uprising! An uprising is a 6-week cycle that Revolt uses to help us all stay on track and motivated. I knew it was going to take more than one uprising to get me where I wanted to be, and Monday I started my second uprising. The format and workouts have all changed, so I’m looking forward to exciting new challenges!

revolt_fitness_program I’ve learned so much about my body and about myself. I started out trying to talk myself out of working out for whatever reason – too busy, too tired, too sore. Then somewhere along the way these past 6 weeks, something changed. Now I talk myself into one more rep, one more circuit, 5 extra pounds.

It’s been the same with food. I started out justifying putting anything into my mouth. Since I worked out, eating fries wasn’t so bad. A glass of wine every night wasn’t going to kill me. And that all changed too. I’ve been working so hard trying to transform my body that I know that extra calories and sugar just because I am having a weak moment really will make a difference – those extra calories throughout the day do add up. And while I’m not perfect, I really do try to save the cheating for my cheat days.

Revolt Fitness Program

So let’s get to the results. After just six weeks, I’m already seeing some significant changes! revolt_uprising1_results

I’ve lost over 11 inches and almost 10 pounds of fat! That’s a decrease in fat mass of about 19%!

fitness_programA few people that don’t know how hard I’m working have even asked if I’ve been losing weight. My family has told me they can see a difference in my face and tummy. I can see small changes here and there. I see definition beginning to take shape. My muffin top is decreasing.

But the biggest change for me is the way my body physically feels. My legs aren’t as wobbly as they used to be; when I touch them, they are hard instead of flabby.

I won’t forget the day I was soaping up to shave my legs and I realized that my legs were hard…there is muscle there now! To be honest, I don’t see a huge change when I put on my bathing suit, but I know from my measurements and the way my body is transforming that I am doing all I can.

So here are a couple of final pics. I’m just showing the side profile because I think it shows the most significant changes. I won’t continue to post these all the time – maybe just at the end of each six weeks.

I hope that some of you will join me! What started out as an opportunity to blog about a fitness program as turned into an addiction fro me. I can’t say enough about how much I love the Revolt Fitness Prorgram!

Disclaimer: I was chosen as a Revolt Fitness Program blogger and received free membership to try the fitness program out. All opinions expressed are my own. And yes, I would pay for the program and will continue to follow it even after my six week commitment is up.

Shaklee 180 Turnaround Program: One Month Results

Shaklee_180 Back at the beginning of March, I vlogged about why I was joining the Shaklee 180 program to lose weight. I said that it didn’t matter what the scale told me…that if I didn’t lose one pound but look and feel better that it would be fine with me. I’m eating my words now (no pun intended). The scale numbers can suck it.

Shaklee 180 Month 1 Results

After following the Shaklee 180 program – drinking a smoothie for breakfast, eating a meal bar for lunch, and then a healthy dinner, I only lost 2.8 pounds over the course of a month.

This is frustrating for me because on this program, the average weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. I should have at least lost 4 pounds! BUT…I’ve also been exercising like crazy. While a may not have lose any scale pounds, I have lost 10.4 inches overall and I’ve lost 7.81 pounds of fat mass! So while the scale might not be showing it, the pounds are definitely falling off and converting into lean body mass. And I am good with that!

During this first month on the Shaklee 180 program, I have also learned a lot.

I am more aware of what I’m eating calories and nutritionally-wise.

The smoothies are easy, convenient, yummy, and I don’t want to skip them…I look forward to them. This is progress for me since before if I could’t find anything to eat for a meal I wouldn’t eat. Then I would shovel in whatever junk food I could find later.

I’m eating much less crap and more healthy foods throughout the day. And while I do “cheat” once or twice a week, I don’t binge the entire day – I select a meal or portion of the day to cheat during, and eat healthy the remainder of the day.

I’m not a fan of the meal bars, I prefer the Shaklee smoothies. They do taste good, but the smoothies are fresher, sweeter, and tastier. But the meal bars are so much more convenient when I’m out and about. They are easy to pack up and take with me when I’m not sure what the day will bring.

I said those scale numbers aren’t important, but I lied. I am bummed I didn’t lose more. Right now I’m skinny fat…I have a thin build and look like I’m skinnier than I am. But I’m 8% away from my fat mass goal of 22% which is healthy for women my height and weight.

I don’t want to just be skinny, I want to be fit and healthy.

I have to keep telling myself that it took me a lot longer than a month to get this out of shape and that it’s going to take a lot longer to see major changes. But I’m in it for the long haul.

I want to look good in clothes AND out of them. So I’m just going to keep trucking along using the Shaklee 180  program and enjoying my new healthy lifestyle. Once I got past being hungry during the first couple of weeks, I actually started looking forward to eating and exercising better (and more!) than I have ever before!

All that being said, I am loving the Shaklee 180 program and I’m still just as excited to be a Shaklee blogger! If you want to learn more about my exercise program and those results, you can check them out here.
