My Morning Beauty Must Haves, Including Tom’s Of Maine Deodorant

Disclaimer: This post was developed in partnership with Tom’s of Maine. All opinions are my own.

My morning routine is a quick one, especially because I have found my favorite beauty must haves and am loyal to them. I try lots of beauty and health products because I like finding products that make me look good, but not made up. I also don’t have a lot of time in the morning to make myself up, so finding products that work consistently is also important to me. I thought I’d share some of my favorites.

My Morning Beauty Must Haves

If you're a busy mom, read about my morning beauty must haves, including Tom's Of Maine Deodorant, to help you make you're beauty routine will be a snap!

Wet Brush – I’m not the only fan of this brush, the girls are too! I have wavy hair but the girls have stick straight hair. Lila has a ton of hair, Mia’s not so much. The cool thing about the Wet Brush is that we can all use it. Use it on wet or dry hair, it quickly and painlessly detangles even the thickest, most stubborn hair. It really works. The girls also like the Detangle Brush, and it works great on their hair but not on mine.

Benefit Cosmetics sun beam – It’s sunshine in a bottle! Seriously, you’ll look like you were kissed by the sun. It’s a golden bronze highlighter that gives you a natural radiance. Just & blend over makeup on to cheek & brow bones. Sometimes I even put a bit on my eyelids instead of wearing eyeshadow.

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash – This tops my list of beauty must haves! Say goodbye to curling your lashes and then applying mascara because this does it all! Roller Lash not only lifts and super-curls, but it holds for 12 hours and is easy to remove.

Clinique Quick Liner for Eyes (Really Black) – This eyeliner glides on smoothly and has a rubber tip at the other end to smudge it out. And it takes no time at all to apply!

NAKED by Urban Decay – I love this eyeshadow pallette because there are a ton of nude colors that can be worn separately or together. It also comes with a great brush to apply the colors with. With the darker colors, I often times will use my MAC Eyeliner brush (that can be used wet or dry) for a different eyeliner look.

Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Foundation – This foundation gives you the full coverage of a foundation, but looks and feels light and natural like a BB cream. It’s healthy and natural for your skin, which is why I love it. Apply it with a Tarte foundation brush and it goes on quickly and smoothly. I even use it as a primer on and around my eyes and use a Benefit Cosmetics foundation brush, which is easier to get into smaller spots with than Tarte’s brush.

Tom’s of Maine Natural Deodorant – I know that over the last 6 months as I’ve been losing weight and getting healthier, I’ve been more aware of not only what I’m putting into my body, but also on my body. I’ve switched from using regular lotions to using coconut oil on my skin. And when I got the chance to try out Tom’s of Maine Natural Deodorants, I figured it was worth a shot!

If you're a busy mom, read about my morning beauty must haves, including Tom's Of Maine Deodorant, to help you make you're beauty routine will be a snap!

Tom’s of Maine harnesses the power of nature to make high quality natural toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, deodorant, bar soap and baby care products. Their team of dentists, scientists and herbal experts that are leaders in their fields develop a wide range of natural products and choices so people can decide what best fits with their needs and values.

I had no idea, but Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant is the best-selling natural deodorant and has been for decades. Tom’s of Maine is introducing a new deodorant formula with new and improved scents, and as always, is free of aluminum, artificial fragrances and petrochemicals. So if you’re concerned about what’s going on your skin, you need to try one of the Tom’s of Maine deodorants.

If you're a busy mom, read about my morning beauty must haves, including Tom's Of Maine Deodorant, to help you make you're beauty routine will be a snap!

The Long Lasting Deodorant comes in amazing natural fragrances like Fresh Apricot, Wild Lavender, Tea Tree, and Refreshing Lemongrass.  It’s clinically proven to provide you with 24-hour odor protection using odor-fighting hops and the mineral zinc.

I was told to try them for at least 7 days, and test out different scents (or unscented) to help determine the best fit for my body’s unique chemistry. My favorite deodorant was the Refreshing Lemongrass Long Lasting Deodorant. It was weird at first because I was worried about feeling “wet” since there’s no antiperspirant in it. Jason only uses deodorant, so he was used to the feeling. I eventually got used to it, and gave it a stamp of approval. The best thing about it was that it really did last a long time! You don’t have to worry about reapplying throughout the day. It works!

Note: I was told and want to pass along to you that when trying a natural deodorant for the first time it’s important to give your body time to adjust. If your body is used to a conventional product, it may need some time to adjust to a natural formula free of chemicals and artificial ingredients.

Tom’s of Maine products come in fully recyclable packaging through local municipalities or the TerraCycle Tom’s of Maine Natural Care Brigade. They never test on animals or use animal ingredients. And with every purchase, Tom’s of Maine gives 10% of profits back to helping people and the planet. Just one more reason to buy Tom’s of Maine products!

I’m not the only one switching to Tom’s of Maine. Listen to Elise explain why she did, too.

Tom’s of Maine is a staple in my beauty must haves, because it works. It even has a permanent spot on the bottom shelf of my medicine cabinet, reserved only for my must have products (I keep my makeup in a makeup case.) Which beauty must haves top your list of favorites?

Since it does such a fantastic job, it’s even getting the Mommy of a Monster stamp of approval!

My Life In Pictures: October 1 – 15, 2016

Over the past six months or so, twice a month I share my Instagram pictures since I can’t seem to find time to write! I call it My Life In Pictures. You can see all of my previous posts here.

Here’s what we’ve been up to the first half of October…

Everybody says that Ethan is my mini me, but I just don’t see it! What do you think?

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-10-30-51-am

Well, there are probably not too many adults who lose to 7 year olds when playing Hangman, but Lila legitimately beat me. She even gave me extra guesses by putting a face on the poor guy! And I’m even more embarrassed to admit that the word she stumped me on was our last name!

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-10-33-14-am

Ethan was lucky enough to get a picture taken with Jon Pritikin at the Simple Acts of Care & Kindness conference. I spent a great day with E and his 4th grade class (and a gazillion other 4th graders.) I loved SACK’s message and Jon’s message…so glad that our school makes sure that all of our 4th graders get to hear it!

Got the newest Thug Kitchen cookbook, Thug Kitchen 101: Fast as F*ck. I have all three Thug Kitchen cookbooks, which I love because the recipes are clean and healthy and DELICIOUS.

Even if you don’t like to cook, you’ll have fun reading the recipes! Check this one out (this recipe is yummy, by the way!)

Ethan has a question… #wouldyourather #wouldyouratherkids

A video posted by Natalie H (Mommy of a Monster) (@nataliehoage) on

This kid is such a ham for the camera. I’m thinking about having him start his own vlog on my blog. He has lots to say and talk about and he’s so good on camera!

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-10-48-46-am

And he’s starting to love soccer! He’s finally putting a lot of effort into it, and his hardwork is paying off.

This whole clown thing is out of control, yet I’m fascinated by it! So much so that I wrote a short piece of fiction about it called One Yellow Balloon.

What have you been up to this month?

My Life In Pictures: September 1 – 30, 2016

Over the past six months or so, twice a month I share my Instagram pictures since I can’t seem to find time to write! I call it My Life In Pictures. You can see all of my previous posts here.

I’m telling you, the older the kids get, the busier our schedules get, and the less time I have to blog! I feel like their childhoods are slipping away and I’m not recording it like I used to. It’s bittersweet: I’m happy to be spending so much time “living” outside of the computer, but I feel like they won’t have as many recorded memories as they did when they were younger. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked back through my blog posts and said “Oh yeah! That was cool…I forgot about that!” So while I can’t write as often as I’d like, I hope that recording memories via pictures will help.

I ordered this shirt from Human Unlimited and LOVE that they not only took the time to say thank you, but did it with a personalized card! I was so impressed by it that I wrote about easy ways brands can say thank you at Wylie and Company!

Ethan read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing with his class, and liked it so much he wanted to spend his birthday money on the rest of the Fudge books (and check out the bookmark he picked out)! I love that he’s a bookworm just like his mama.

screenshot-2016-09-29-09-45-44

Have you seen Pete’s Dragon yet? My sister’s and I took the kids to see it and it was fantastic! I cried. The kids cried. And it’s such a happy ending! Ethan liked it so much he wants to read it now, too!

screenshot-2016-09-29-09-47-54

Ever since they were were babies, they’ve always snuggled close. They may fight like sisters, but there is definitely a special bond between them! They still sleep together, and most mornings when I go to check on them they are touching in some way.

screenshot-2016-09-29-09-49-40

Man, how kids change your life! Our Friday nights now consist of Headbanz and board games with the kids instead of long dinners and drinks with friends. And that’s okay.

screenshot-2016-09-29-09-49-52

I LOVE decorating for Halloween, but it seemed to early to do so at the beginning of September! So instead we decorated the mantles for Fall. But this weekend, it’s on – the Halloween decorations are coming out! And speaking of which…check out this cool TV I found at Target:

Spooky, huh?

Mid-month at my weekly Weight Watchers meeting, I realized that I had lost 10% of my body weight and that I’m more than halfway to my goal weight! Hoping to reach it by Christmas!

screenshot-2016-09-29-09-56-06

And while Weight Watchers is teaching me to eat in a way that I can see myself following forever, walking has also played a huge role in my success. I try to walk about 10,000 steps at least 5 days a week. The only time my Fitbit comes off is to shower or to charge. I love that it tracks my activity, active minutes, and even my sleep. Why did I take a picture of my Fitbit? Because I was proud of myself for reaching my daily goal before 10 AM!

A friend of mine took this picture of Lila hugging her daddy at a meeting at school. This photo is one of my favorite photos of the two of them ever.

img_6059

We celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary last week! We took a trip to wine taste in Paso Robles with my sister and her husband (celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary) and other wine loving friends who were celebrating Joel’s birthday. It was a blast – I haven’t laughed so hard in a really long time! This picture was taken at one of our favorite wineries, Calcareous Vineyard. It sits on top of a hill and the view is amazing, as are the wines.

5 Ways To Save Money In Your Bathrooms

This post was sponsored by Charmin as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central.

Let’s be honest: we are all always looking for ways we can save money. I try to save money at the grocery store, when buying the kids an endless supply of clothes they seem to outgrow every couple of months, and I especially try to save money at home. By being efficient and a little creative, it’s easy to save money for your family. You can make your own cleaning products, learn how to cook once a month in bulk, clip coupons (or use electronic coupons) when shopping, and even regrow veggies and herbs that you use often.

Whether you realize it or not, you regularly spend a lot of money in the bathroom. From water and shampoos and conditioners, to soap, razors, and toilet paper…that’s a lot of money we spend for the bathroom! So I thought I’d share 5 ways to save money in your bathrooms that you can start using today.

5 Ways To Save Money In Your Bathrooms

Make Your Own All-Purpose, Shower, Glass, and Toilet Bowl Cleaners
It doesn’t take much time and it’s worth the effort, trust me! Once you start making your own cleaning products you won’t every buy them again. They work and they will save you a ton of money. And although some of the ingredients (like the essential oils) may seem expensive, you use such a small amount of them each time you make the all-purpose cleaner that it will last a very long time.

A Natural House Cleaning Recipe that will allow you to make your own all purpose cleaner.

This is really the world's best shower cleaner. It removes tough soap scum with almost no work on your part. You make it yourself with just 2 ingredients!

Make Your Own Streak Free Glass Cleaner: Mix 2 cups of water with 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol, and 1 tbsp. of corn starch.

Make Your Own Toilet Bowl Cleaner: Sprinkle baking soda all over the inside of the bowl and add a 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Leave it to work it’s magic by foaming up for a few minutes. Scrub it down with a toilet brush and flush it.

I’ve got lots more make-your-own ideas and recipes on Pinterest, too!

Buy Razors On the Cheap
dollar-shave-club1
Consider joining the Dollar Shave Club that will ship razors really good razors to you for as little as a dollar a month! Not sure it’s legit? There are no fees, no commitment, and you can cancel anytime. Satisfaction is also 100% guaranteed. This one was a game changer and money saver for us…I highly recommend you check it out and try it!

Use Your Bath Towel More Than Once

When you get out of the shower or bath, you’re clean! Really you are just wiping clean water off of your clean body, so don’t be afraid to use that towel for more than one shower. Switch it out after every couple of showers and you’ll save yourself time and money when it comes to doing laundry. You just reduced towel laundry by half!

Buy In Bulk
Yes, it may seem like your shelling out a ton of money at once, but buying things like soap, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, tissue, etc. really does save you money in the long run. Especially if, like our house, the kids tend to use way more than they need to.

Use Toilet Paper That WORKS!

Believe it or not, you spend a lot of money in your bathrooms! I'm sharing 5 ways to save money in your bathrooms, including using Charmin Essentials - the toilet paper that WORKS!

We go through a ton of toilet paper in our house, and all of us prefer soft toilet. We use it on the toilet (obviously), to blow noises (allergies galore here), and to wipe away tears and makeup and even for little bathroom spills. We buy Charmin® Essentials Strong because it’s the soft that Charmin® is known for, and is so strong that you don’t have to use a ton of it to get the job done. That means you use less toilet paper than you’d have to use with other, cheaper brands. You’re already saving money!

Believe it or not, you spend a lot of money in your bathrooms! I'm sharing 5 ways to save money in your bathrooms, including using Charmin Essentials - the toilet paper that WORKS!

Growing up, my mom used to buy whatever toilet paper was on sale, and we’d have to use a ton of the cheap stuff because it was so thin. And it wasn’t soft. So while I’m not loyal to many household brands, I am loyal to Charmin Essentials because the products always work just like you expect them to. Charmin® Essentials Soft and Charmin Essentials Strong are two new products designed to provide you with more of what you want at a comparable price to the product that you currently use.

And check this out…

Believe it or not, you spend a lot of money in your bathrooms! I'm sharing 5 ways to save money in your bathrooms, including using Charmin Essentials - the toilet paper that WORKS!

Charmin Essentials rolls are HUGE! 6 Charmin Essentials rolls are the same as 24 regular size rolls. And Charmin Essentials rolls are even bigger than other brand double rolls. So you are definitely getting more bang for your buck with Charmin Essentials.

Don’t worry about breaking the bank; Charmin Essentials is just as affordable as your current toilet paper. Charmin Essentials Soft provides Charmin-like softness at an Angel Soft®- like price, while Charmin Essentials Strong provides a big Charmin roll at a Scott® 1000- like price. No compromising quality for price!

Believe it or not, you spend a lot of money in your bathrooms! I'm sharing 5 ways to save money in your bathrooms, including using Charmin Essentials - the toilet paper that WORKS!

Still not sure? Charmin is inviting shoppers to upgrade their Angel Soft® for Charmin Essentials Soft and Scott® 1000 for Charmin Essentials Strong. It’s simple to participate. All you have to do is Tweet their TP swap out request to @Charmin using the hashtag #CharminEssentials and #Promotion, and Charmin will send you a free roll. Yep, a free roll!

My Life In Pictures: August 1 – 31, 2016

Over the past six months or so, twice a month I share my Instagram pictures since I can’t seem to find time to write! I call it My Life In Pictures. You can see all of my previous posts here.

August was one of the most fun months so far this year! From Mia winning a jackpot to the first day of school and a week in Hawaii, we kept ourselves very busy and are still trying to catch up. Since Hawaii was an amazing first “big” family vacation, it deserves it’s own post so you’ll see that soon. But for the rest of August, here’s what we were up to…

We got to visit Adventure City in Anaheim, CA!

screenshot-2016-09-07-11-55-26

I’ve lived in Southern California my entire life and never had been there before. There were lots of rides, and it’s quite literally a little city. There’s a police station and a fire department and much, much more. If you’re local, check it out!

While we were there, I was videotaping Mia playing a video game (at her request) and she just happened to hit the jackpot!

The ladies decided to pool their winnings together (yep, Lila is really smart and Mia is so generous she doesn’t care that she got the short end of the stick) and decided to buy “noise putty,” which is a nice way to say it’s putty that makes fart noises. This video was also taped at their request.

Lila lost her second top tooth, so she is toofless and has the cutest smile!

screenshot-2016-09-07-12-05-43

Obligatory first day of school picture. Ethan started 4th grade and Mia and Lila started 2nd.

screenshot-2016-09-07-12-06-41

Jason took Ethan to see Jason’s brother Adam’s memorial at our old high school. Jason always says Ethan is a lot like Adam. I told Ethan that some of his Uncle Adam is alive in him. Ethan said he was proud to be like his Uncle. We are very proud too.

screenshot-2016-09-07-12-09-41

We celebrated birthdays! The girls turned 7 and Ethan was lucky enough to celebrate his 9th birthday in Hawaii! This is a picture of him at his favorite beach.

screenshot-2016-09-07-12-11-51

It was a great month and we all agreed it was our favorite month of summer.

I mentioned in my last My Life in Pictures post that I had started Weight Watchers and exercising. Since June I’ve lost 15 pounds and 13 inches! I’m halfway to my goal weight, which I hope to reach by December. I found this comic and it really made me laugh since I’ve been walking/running at all times of the day…but not at fy vay em! Just call me Bob.
