Welcome to

20 Bloggers Making a Difference

May 8th thru May 18th

FUNDRAISING ON BEHALF OF GLOBAL MOMS

shot@life
Last week, I told you about Shot at Life and how along with 19 other bloggers, I am honoring motherhood.  Why are we doing this? For the children. Because:

Every twenty seconds a child dies of a preventable disease
Twenty dollars can save a life
Twenty bloggers are making a difference.

We are moms.

We wipe noses and buns.

We play, we sing, we rock, we love.

We are the meanest moms in the world and the only moms they ever want.

We cry, worry, teach, smile, yell, cuddle, and want to pull our hair out…sometimes all within the span of a few minutes.

We are chefs, maids, caregivers, nurses, chauffeurs, homework helpers, Santas, Easter Bunnies, (and I’m soon to be a Tooth Fairy).

We want the best for our children, and always do what we think is in their best interest; sometimes we are right and sometimes we are wrong.

We may all do it differently, but the one thing we all have in common is that we are all mothers and learning every step of the way.

Sisters From Another Mister, proud Champion for shot@life and the UN Foundation, is leading bloggers down an important path.
Each blogger has linked a post about Motherhood, like mine here, to raise awareness for the importance of global vaccinations. Now I’m asking you to pledge, to donate and to help make a difference. Consider writing a post or commenting on one or more posts between May 8th and May 18th. Those who link up their posts, and those who comment, will all be asked to make donations and will be entered in a series of giveaways.

The rules are simple:
1. If you write a post, there’s a $10 dollar minimum donation to participate in the linky
2. $1 donation is required for each comment, and you may comment on our hub page as many times as you like
3. Donations are tax deductible
4. The donation page is right here if you would like to donate now.
5. Giveaways will be for both linkers and commenters and chosen by a generated program like random.org

Make your donations for links and comments right here – remember you are helping to save lives!

On Mother’s Day, Give A Child A Shot@Life

shot@life This week is World Immunization week and the perfect time to talk about the importance of global vaccinations and shot@life.

Every twenty seconds a child dies of a preventable disease.
Only twenty dollars saves the life of a child.
Twenty bloggers are making a difference!

shot@life and Sisters From Another Mister

I am so so excited to share that I am one of the bloggers that have teamed up with Nicole of Sisters From Another Mister, shot@life, and the United Nations Foundation to announce a link up to share our stories about motherhood.

Join us for a Mother’s Day meme link up that will begin on May 8th and run through the 18th. You can help us make a difference in the world.

Our words will raise awareness for global vaccinations and raise money for those who do not have the means to help themselves …because every child deserves a shot@life.

Here’s how the link up will work: On May 8th, the link up will go live on Nicole’s Sisters From Another Mister blog. From there, you can visit the 20 other bloggers above and read their posts and help support their efforts. You can comment on their posts, and we hope that you will also write your own post. Linkers and commenters will have a chance to win one of several giveaways.

Mother’s Day Shot@Life Link Up

It will be easy for you to join in and show your support!

You can write a post and come back between May 8th – 18th to link it up on the main page. Write about anything that has to do with motherhood: about being a Mom, having a Mom, knowing a Mom, what being a Mom means to you, about wanting to be a Mom. Write about your mom friends, or a mom who makes a difference.

To show your support when you link and comment, make a small donation (any amount will help support children in need!) Remember that all donations are tax deductible.

Tell your friends about this! Even if you cannot donate, you can share, tweet, and read them all!

Know that by helping us spread the word and by leaving comments, and sharing your story YOU are making a difference!

The donation page is up and running should you wish to contribute now, please visit Team ImmUNITY Nicole Morgan – shot@life.

ORIGINAL POST

I don’t remember much about kindergarten, do you?

I remember recess, the little chairs, and my mom walking to the school to pick me up and walk home with me at the end of the day. I remember my teacher’s name, Mrs. Jensen (or was it Jansen?) I remember coloring and circle time.

I also remember my mom bought me these little red rainboots that had Snoopy on them and I remember that I hated them. She had to force me to wear them. It doesn’t rain much here, so I’m not sure why I had them or had to wear them in the first place.

That is all I remember about kindergarten.

But reminiscing about the good old days is fun! So is digging out old kindergarten pictures to see how much you have changed. A bunch of blogging friends and I thought it would be fun to see how many of you could match our kindergarten pictures to us…so allow me to present to you:

name_that_kindergartner

It’s very simple to join in! Simply match the picture (with the assigned alphabet) to the blogger whose blog is listed below.

If you get them all right, you could win a $300 Amazon gift card!* You can also get to know some of the bloggers listed here, if you don’t already. Plus, you get to have a laugh at our expenses, just like we did! Now get ready, set, play!

Project Smile – January

I won’t have time to post this later in the week, so I’m doing my Project Smile post today.

Don’t know what Project Smile is? My wonderful friend Alicia over at A Beautiful Mess had the most fantastic idea…do something to help us find and appreciate our smiles. What are the things that happen everyday that make you smile? It could be something as simple as watching a hummingbird dance around a flower. Want to know more about her wonderful idea? Read her Launching Project Smile post.

There’s no right or wrong way to do this…simply jot down things that make you happy. I chose to do one a day for the entire month. It was a way to remind me that it’s the little things that are the most important, and to find something to smile about each day (especially on the bad ones!).

Now, start jotting down your smiles and link up the last day of every month!

1 – Feeling better after having the stomach flu

2 – Got the house cleaned up and back in order after days of being sick

3 – Playdate at my sister’s…gave the kids a chance to let off some cooped-up steam

4 – Bowling…I bowled my best series ever!

5 – My post The Business which still makes me laugh everytime I see it

6 – Danced in the living room with the kids

7 – Got my inbox all cleaned out…no emails! Yay! (Come on, it doesn’t happen very often!)

8 – Girls watching football with Daddy

9 – Californication is back on…I love that show!

10 – Playdate – kept the kids busy while I got to chat with a real live grown-up!

11 – Started my new part time job!

13 – Back to work and using my brain

14 – Another opportunity presented itself…

15 – Beautiful Southern California weather – outside enjoying it!

16 – Visit from Jason’s aunt and uncle who never got a chance to meet the babies until now

17 – Picnic lunch outside with the kids…sans ants

18 – Bowled one of my best series ever (above average in all 3 games!)

19 – After a week of living with sickos, finally got the doctor to prescribe antibiotics all around

20 – Good news. Really good news! Found out that one of my posts was being syndicated on BlogHer!

21 – Outside in the beautiful So Cal sunshine all afternoon with the kids

22 – Last minute bbq at my parent’s house with family and friends…always makes for a good time

And so it goes…

Project Smile – December

Happy New Year To You!

I wanted to kick of the New Year with a smile, or how about a whole month of them?!

1st – Watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with Tater. Brought back all kinds of childhood memories

2nd –

3rd – Tater went to bed at the same time as the girls! Hubby’s working, kids are sleeping, and I have the TV all to myself.
4th – Put up my Dept. 56 Christmas village

5th – I started to prepare my “pitch” to get a sponsorship to BlogHer 2011!

6th – I got my cool wreath and door hanger from the Celebrating Home party I had (if you see anything you like, my sister-in-law sells it!)

7th – Bowling. I suck, but it’s fun
8th – Reading with the kids
9th – A glass of wine and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
10th – Got our family pictures taken, and the kids got their picture taken with Santa
11th – Tater spent the night with Auntie S, and was so excited that it made me happy too!
12th – Poker, beer, and homemade tamales at my sister’s house
13th – Took the kids to the park
14th – 16th – Dealing with sick husband (again) and kids. Not so much smiling going on.
17th – Impromptu party with neighbors and friends. A fun evening that we need to do more often.
18th – Our huge family Christmas party…Santa comes for the kids and everything!
19th – Quiet, rainy day at home in pajamas
20th – Happy birthday to my sister A!
21st – Happy first birthday to my best friend’s little girl!
22nd – Found out some good news I will share soon…(no, I’m not pregnant!)
23rd – All 3 nieces came over to make cookies. It was a fun afternoon!
24th – Christmas Eve excitement
25th – Watching the wonder in the kids’ eyes
26th – RELAXING and doing nothing
27th – No rain…the kids got to play outside and get out of my hair
28th – Ms. M fell and was hurt badly enough to make a trip to the doctor – she was okay though, and that’s what is important (that story is coming to you next week)
29th – I posted a list of my favorite posts from 2010, as well as my reader’s favorite Mommy of a Monster posts from 2010
30th & 31st – I got the stomach flu. Fortunately, Twitter kept me entertained while I was praying for death in bed
And so it goes…
