Back at the end of October, I told you that I was going to be working on getting back in shape (again) by doing BodyRock.TV workouts and the Brazil Butt Lift workout. Why? Because after losing 11 inches doing the Brazil Butt Lift, in just 4 months I gained back 9 of the 11 inches that I had lost. Turns out after just one week I quit, and haven’t worked out since. Now the holidays are here and I am afraid I’ll use the excuse “after the holidays” to do it, except that I started reading Body Back, and I think I’ll be able to get through the holidays while still focusing on not gaining more inches.
Body Back is written by Heather Porter, a mother of 4 who “gets” what it’s like to have your body totally change after babies. She says, “For me, it wasn’t just about shedding the pregnancy pounds but about learning to be attractive and healthy again, both emotionally and physically.”
That’s exactly how I feel about it too! It’s about coming to terms with the fact that my body is physically different now, and will never be the same as it was pre-babies.
This book isn’t just about exercise though – it’s so much more. Heather shares her own experiences of getting her old self back. She shares information on her exercises, eating habits, beauty tips, dress sense, and more.
When I got the book, I thumbed through it to see what it was all about. Throughout the book, she shares “Body Back Tips” which I love because I love tips and being able to quickly scan through all of them to get a feeling of what information she’s sharing.
Since it’s the holidays, I immediately flipped to her section titled All About Food and started reading. It’s full of information that I can use in my daily life, not just stuff that I can reference if I am looking up something particular. One of my favorite sections was about Superfoods and how they can keep you from getting sick, promote great skin and help slow down the aging process. These are foods we should all be eating anyways, and foods I love (like carrots and broccoli and cranberries and garlic!) I also learned that apples and bananas are both fat-burning foods, so I can eat those throughout the day and not worry about all the sugar.
And one Body Back tip that I am starting today:
Fill a jug with water and cucumber and drink it all day to stave off the temptation of caffeine and soda.
Such a simple change, and one I was doing when I was eating healthy. I mix it up and sometimes do water and lemon or water and basil…anything to give the water some flavor.
This book is set up to be read by busy moms – the topics are short and can be read quickly. There’s a ribbon bookmark attached to the book so you won’t have to worry about losing your place if you have to put it down. Heather writes in an easy to understand way, and not only gives you information, but tells you why it’s relevant. It’s a book you don’t have to read all at once – you can skip around to different sections or only read about particular topics.
