Blogging’s Taking Over My Life!

Oh reading! How I miss thee! Reading of the books that is…I’ve probably read 10 novels worth of blogs in the past couple of weeks alone!

So yep, I think it’s happened. Blogging has taken over my life. Laundry is piling up. Housework is being put off for yet another day. The kids are wondering who the crazy lady on the computer all day is. Books are also being stacked in a “to read” pile, and honestly, that has NEVER happened before.

If I have a book in the house, it gets read. Well, it would’ve gotten read before I started blogging, anyways. When I first started blogging back in March, nobody read my blog. So I would post something, and then I’d read because they were no comments to respond to and no other blogs to visit…because I didn’t know how to find them! Then I stumbled across Blog Frog and found other bloggers. This of course led to finding blogs.

More time on the computer reading blogs = Less time reading books
It’s like an addiction, blog reading is. If you are a reader and a writer, you’ll probably get hooked pretty quickly. One blog leads to another and another… it’s never ending!
But I’m happy that I stumbled into this new world. Because some amazing things have happened! I’ve met some wonderful new friends, found a huge amount of support for moms of multiples, and I’m also using my brain (yay!) in a very creative way.
An exciting bit of news – my cute little monster button was featured by Elizabeth over at Twelve Crafts Till Christmas! Elizabeth loves buttons, and also about learning the story behind them. She contacted me and asked if she could feature my button. Check out some of the other cool buttons she featured, too!

And I’m going to have another exciting announcement at the end of the week – you won’t want to miss it!

But back to the books…I will admit, I really, really miss reading. I’m a fanatic…and I haven’t been checking updates lately or adding new books to my “to read” list – I’m a reading slacker! I am currently reading something; I’m about 160 pages in to The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson. It’s the first book I’ve started reading in over a month. This is just plain crazy because I was never without a book in my hand before blogging. The Larsson book is the last book in the trilogy, and I can’t seem to find enough time to read it even though I could hardly put down the first two! And it’s all blogging’s fault!
And so it goes…

  1. I hear ya *sigh*. It is like crack, maybe worse. Not speaking from experience of course. I joined a book club. Tonight was the first night and turns out I have 1 week to read a 400+ page book. I'm wondering how to squeeze that in too. What am I thinking?

Congrats on the success. It hasn't come easy for me. There is a definite price and I'm trying desperately to find that balance.
  2. I'm very much the same. I usually always had a book with me. And now, it's blogging and blog reading that takes up my time.
  3. Blogging is addicting for sure.

I'm still on chapter 3 of "...Hornet's Nest". Just can't find the time to sit down and read, but blogging and blog reading and commenting... there's plenty of time for that! :)

I'm in a book club so that keeps me reading regularly, but my goodreads list is ridiculous.
  4. Ms. Understood says:
Blogging is a definite addiction. It's taken over my usually chatting on instant messenger and browsing message boards addition. Oooh, I wonder what the announcement is. Can't wait to read it.
  5. Heather says:
I hear ya! Addicted for sure!
  6. Sippy Cup Mom says:
You know I feel exactly like you! ;-)

I thought I was going crazy with Blogger being down. What did I do? Went to the library and brought home 10 books!!
  7. Allyson & Jere says:
Yeah, me too. And sometimes I feel rather guilty, you know, about the kids running around willy nilly with crappy supervision. No trips outside of the house, 'cause i've just got to check blogs.

More importantly, you JUST started this blog in March? HOW did you get so many followers this fast? Impressive. Fill me in, 'cause I got nothin.
  8. Yes, blogging has taken over my life too. I love it but I am striving to find a better balance. I must...the lids and the house cannot be neglected for too much longer.
  9. Pumpkin and Piglet says:
Total blogging addict here! I love blogging, the communities, making friends, reading, commenting but I fear it's getting a bit out of hand. My to-do, to-read and to-make lists are seriously getting out of control! I've got to find some balance...

Congrats on getting your button featured :)
  10. we're all in the same boat, I think. To make you feel better, I wrote a post last night on why blogging is good for your health :)
  11. Stacey @ Tree, Root, and Twig says:
I've been blogging for five years, and there isn't a month goes by that I don't feel this same exact way! It's like an ebb and flow - sometimes I'm totally balanced, other times I have to get my computer time under control. You're in the fun stages of it, though, so enjoy it! And when it begins to feel like "work," you'll figure out how to get priorities straight again (and enjoy everything much more). :)

Oh, and she has so many followers so quickly because she is AWESOME. I love your energy and light, Natalie! :)
  12. So very true! It's amazing how one blog leads to the next and before you know it, your whole day is gone!!!
  13. that's super cool about your blog button feature! and are you really going to leave us hanging for your announcement? :)
  14. Funky Mama Bird says:
I love your blog's button. Awesome having it featured!
  15. Aging Mommy says:
Oh thank you Natalie for this post because I was only thinking last night, reading page 128 of a book I started two weeks ago, how I miss having the time to read books. I am a total book lover and used to get through at least one book a week, but like you I now read the equivalent in blog posts. I'm also feeling like the blogging is taking over and like you I am loving being part of this blogging world but know the time is coming when I am going to have to decide, continue full on or cut back a bit before I get totally out of balance.

I can't wait to read the Hornet's Nest - I absolutely loved and could not put down the first two in the series either!
  16. Lately I feel like I've fallen down a rabbit hole.
  17. Amy @ Positively Splendid says:
I am trying so hard to find balance between blogging and everything else. It takes so much TIME. Enjoyable time, but time nonetheless!
  18. Karen Mortensen says:
I know what you mean. I am the same way. But, I love blogging.
  19. Heather says:
Ugh... I know. I'm totally addicted. I love it though. It is my baby book and diary and support group all rolled into one.
  20. elizabeth @ twelvecrafts says:
How was I not a follower before today? Hmmm . . . odd. I went to find you on my blog list this morning and you were not there, so I remedied that situation. Thanks for the shout out. I got a few e-mail from people who love your blog button as much as I do! Have a great day . . . hope you get some non-blog reading in today. :)
  21. anne maskell says:
How true! Since starting blogging, I rarely read anything else! I love reading blogs! I'm a new follower. I'd love to have you visit me!
  22. Bethany @ Organic Enchilada says:
I can't believe you've only been blogging since March. Now I feel like a total loser. :)

I've been trying to get more actual book reading in, too. Just started a really weird one last night. I won't tell what it is though, cause I might be embarrassed.
  23. The Mommyologist says:
Blogging pretty much took over my life too! I'm trying to be better about it though, so I just do what I can. I don't want my real world life to forget about me!! It is so addicting though...and totally time consuming if you want to keep at a good pace, etc.
  24. I hear you. I can attack a whole book in one night if I want to. I recently had to do that so I could read a book before Tobei did as I wanted to read it first otherwise I would ask him to spoil it for me to save me time. I have tons of books sitting around the house now ignored and wanting to be read but blogging has taken over me.
  25. Maureen says:
Ooooh so true! Since I've been actively blogging I haven't even finish my books and I usually can finish a book in less than a week but now I have a book that's been sitting on my bedside table for at least 2 months *still unfinished*
  26. You know what happens? You stop blogging so much to read more books and your readership falls off. It's what happened to me. But it's okay. This week I have posted almost every day and I have read 2 books... In the last month I have blogged and read... granted my blog posts aren't as consistent, but I have still managed to read about 8 books in the last couple of months.

It's possible, but you have to loose the addiction, which is not easy. (Or your hubby has to sigh disgustedly at you one too many times)
  27. i am with you...i am a reader and love is hard to find a balance sometimes....but i do LOVE blogging!

    an announcement...can't wait!
  28. My husband seldom complains about anything, but this blogging this is really starting to irritate him. I've taken to setting the kitchen timer so I only hang out on the computer for 15 minutes at a time.
  29. Megan (Best of Fates) says:
I think every blogger can completely sympathize! And yes, my physical book reading as decreased drastically with the more and more blogs I follow!
  30. Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points says:
    Score on the button! WOot!

And yes, once upon a time I read books. At least, I think I did...heavy things? Lots of pages? Plots?

Once upon a time I was even a lit major.

I'm sure there were books then. Or maybe it was "boots." College was a loooong time ago.
  31. Kristin Glasbergen says:
Here! Here!! I've been a book rut for some time. I find it really hard to find a book that I will really love. Am I a perfectionist reader? Maybe.
  32. If SHE can figure it out.......... says:
I had to scroll through all your comments and realized that there are a lot of addicts around here. I WISH I had more time to comment and write more blogs, and once the summer is over I'll be hooked once again! Until then, I'm still gonna follow who I follow and write my one measly post a week and hope that all (10) of my followers don't lose interest! Loved this post ;)
  33. What the hell is a book? Haha! If it doesn't light up and warm my lap...I am not reading it:) I am SO with you girlfriend!!
  34. I clicked on this post from another blog's sidebar because the title caught my eye! I feel the same way! I stay up way too late at night on the computer and I have the bags under my eyes to prove it! I love blogging, and I love this community of awesome women that I am caught up in. No one read my blog when I started either, and I can't keep up with all of the blogs I follow, but I try.

I usually don't blog on the weekends because we are out running around with the kids, and it is actually nice to have that break. Blogging is fun and it has become very important to me, but my family comes first!

And now I'm following you! :-) I'm pretty sure I have looked at your blog before but for some reason wasn't following. Stop by mine sometime if you ever have a free second. LOL
  35. MommaKiss says:
i read when out by the pool (weekends) and waiting in doc's offices (often) and sometimes at night while the kids are watching dora or pink panther. it's CLEARLY not as much as I used to, and I, too, miss it!
  36. I am right there with you. I really enjoy reading and the more I stare at the computer the more my eyes burn. So why can't I look away? ha ha I need to get back to books.
  37. Katie's Dailies says:
HA! This couldn't come at a better time---I went to the library yesterday, checked out 4 books and have I cracked one of them open yet? Nope, but guess how many blogs I read last night instead?!
  38. The Urban Cowboy says:
Welcome to the club! At least you took the 'first' step by admitting your addiction.
  39. LOL - I have been sucked into the blogging world as well. My books/magazines are collecting dust! But I've met some amazing women, gotten some great advice, read some awesome narratives and made a few friends along the way with blogging - I love it!
  40. 3LittleMonkeys says:
I am totally with you on this! It's so hard to find the time to read all the blogs that ya love, write your won blog, plus raise 3 little kids! I have 5 magazines piled up as well as The Girl Who Played With Fire just waiting to be read. If there were only an extra hour in my day....
  41. TornadoTwos says:
I can't believe you've only been blogging since March and yet you have such a great following already! Awesome job! I'll be looking out for your other announcement.
  42. Nichole says:
I was an English major in college and have been an avid reader all my life.

Since I began blogging, picking up a book feels like too much of a commitment. Sneaking in a half hour here or there to read blogs is totally doable, but an entire book feels daunting now.

I miss novels, though. If something doesn't change soon, I'm going to schedule a trip to someplace with no internet connection and bring a stack of books with me.
  43. Yep, blog addict. When is the first official 'bloggers addicted anonymous' meeting?
  44. I've actually been feeling this way...and so I'm stopping for a bit...other than a picture here and there. I just can't keep up with it all. If I could just blog and then let it go...but there are so many amazing bloggy friends out there..I am "driven" to visit.(Because I like em'..not because I have to!) Just the thought of stepping a way for awhile is sad to me..but I must!! Of course, I'll get my "Mommy of a Monster" fix each day! ;)
  45. you are so right...blogging took over scrapbooking for me. i used to think, i'll scrap it's 'I'll blog that!'. i have so many posts i need to do right now...
  46. Kim Bauer says:
Some how I stumbled across this post after too many hours blogging. I couldn't help laughing and crying at the same time. I have been blogging for about a year, casually, and recently actually got this crazy idea to "raise my game". I had a professional site designed and am launching it as we speak. Guess what one of my first posts is..."Insights on the Women Who Blog". I find this whole topic fascinating. After caring for others constantly, we must have an overwhelming need to express ourselves and connect with others. Really loved your post and all the comments. Check out my article if you get a chance and then go do the laundry. Kim Bauer.
  47. The Empress says:
Yes, you're right...on all of it.

    But what do we do??
  48. MandyE (Twin Trials and Triumphs) says:
I'm with you here, too! Over the past month or so, I've made a concerted effort to read BOOKS...not just blogs and magazines. I feel a little like "me" again!
