An All Natural Gift

Here on my blog, I’ve mentioned that we are a ‘green’ family that is learning and trying to be more green everyday. It’s not always easy and it does take some practice, but it’s something I work at.

We recycle. We reuse. We try to buy environmentally friendly products. I use all-natural cleaners…you get the idea. And the place that I’m probably the ‘greenest’ is when I am dealing with the kids; what they eat, what they wear, and what they play with.

So when Beech-Nut contacted me and asked if I’d like to review one of their All-Natural Toddler Holiday Totes, I agreed. Let’s face it…I’ve got toddlers, so this seemed like a pretty good deal to me!

The tote arrived packed full of great things:

An organic cotton tote – The tote is made from 100% organic cotton. It’s sturdy, very roomy, and I’ve already used to tote food back and forth to a holiday party and to use for grocery shopping.

A roll of “plantable” holiday gift wrap and gift tags – What a fun idea this is! The wrapping paper has suns all over it and says “Water Me”, “Grow Me”, and “Flowers” all over it. After the wrapped gift is open, you soak the paper in water overnight, then cover it with a thin layer of soil. You keep it moist and before you know it, wildflowers will be blooming! I can’t wait to see what they look like. The paper also came with some gift tags that describe the process. The paper can be used for any gift giving, it’s not themed for just Christmas. There were also some holiday gift tags included with holly berries decorating them, and I do plan to use those for Christmas gifts.

Organic cotton fruit and veggie toys – Let me tell you how cute these are! We received a carrot and a tomato. The girls attacked them before I even had a chance to photograph them, and they’ve been happily pretending to munch away on them ever since. The organically grown cotton stuffed toys are made by the 13 Villages Project, which supplies 13 villages with daily fair trade work. They are perfectly healthy toys for your child and the environment, and if my girls could talk, they’d tell you how much they adored them.

Coupons and tips for Beech-Nut products – like what toddlers should be eating, how big the pieces should be, and how to make mealtime fun.

And last but not least, there was samples of new Beech-Nut Homestyle Steamies. These meals are for toddlers and made with natural ingredients. There are no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. We received samples of Cheesy Lasagna, Chicken and Cheesy Potatoes, Chicken Vegetable Stars, and Macaroni and Cheese.

Both my girls loved the Cheesy Lasagna and Macaroni and Cheese. I mean, pounding-on-their-highchair-trays-and-yelling-for-more loved them. Ms. M also really liked the Chicken Vegetable Stars, while Ms. L ate everything but the chicken. We haven’t tried the Chicken and Cheesy Potatoes, but if I know my girls, they will be asking for seconds on that one too!

As a mom, it is really important that I (always) try to give my kids the most healthy, nutritious, and yummy food that I can. I don’t always do it, but I do try to keep them eating healthy. These Beech-Nut Steamies are really convenient when we are on the go and need to make sure that I have something nutritious to serve the kids. This is a product I would recommend to both my sisters who also have toddlers, and that I will continue to use.

  1. I cannot believe how ingenious their wrapping paper is! Just when you thought your toddler liked the wrapping paper more than the present, paper goes and gets more fun. Awesome. I wonder if I can be really cheap and just give her wrapping paper? She's not a toddler any more, though. However, I could tell her I bought her a field of wildflowers for Christmas? How popular would I be?
  2. How cool! I would love to win this for my friend at work. We all love organic ANYTHiNG.

I don't generally feed my little guy those pre-made meals. BUT - there are those days, after 8 straight hours of tantrum after tantrum when I wish I could just pop his dinner into the microwave and be done with the whole meal preparation thing. I think maybe I could pick a few of these Beech Nut toddler foods up next time I shop.
