How We’ve Been Keeping Ourselves Busy: Smurfs 2 Movie Review

I can’t believe that Ethan starts school next week. Already. I always hear other moms complain about having the kids home all summer long, but I gotta be honest and tell you that I enjoyed it. No schedules, nowhere to be, we can do whatever we want, whenever we want. I am actually going to miss it!

I haven’t been blogging because I’ve been busy keeping the kids busy. And while we had lots of lazy days, we had a lot of fun too. So instead of trying to shove it all in one post, I thought I’d spread it out.

One of the fun family things we recently got to do was go to an early screening of The Smurfs 2, which is being released today. Short review: the kids absolutely loved it and it was a fantastic family movie.

We were invited to see the Smurfs 2 before it was released, and also attended a party which had a very special guest – Papa Smurf!

Of course, everything at the party was all Smurf and all blue and the kids loved every second of it. From tattoos to Legos to Smurf ice cream, the kids were hooked!

Smurfs 2 Movie Review

As for my review of the Smurfs 2, I would recommend it as a great end-of-the-summer family film if you have young kids. All of my kids loved it. However, I think it might seem “cheesy” to older kids and most adults. I happened to love the Smurfs when I was growing up, so I enjoyed the movie. It’s not a movie I would want to watch again, but it is a movie my kids would watch over and over.

If you saw the first Smurfs movie, then you’ll recognize many of the characters, but be prepared to see some new faces too.

Gargamel is at it again at trying to catch the Smurfs. He decides to create two “Naughties”…they are like little un-blue Smurfs) to kidnap Smurfette in the hopes to extract her “Smurf essence”. This will allow Gargamel to rule the world.

They all end up in Paris, France, chasing and running after each other. You can check out the trailer below for more details.

It’s not necessary to have seen the first Smurfs movie to enjoy Smurfs 2. My kids did see it and enjoyed seeing characters they remembered as well as new ones.

If you have young children, especially ones who love the Smurfs, this is the movie to see!

Disclosure: I received an invitation to the Smurfs 2 party and screening. The kids received gift bags, but no compensation was given for this review. All opinions expressed are my own.
