On Mother’s Day, Give A Child A Shot@Life

shot@life This week is World Immunization week and the perfect time to talk about the importance of global vaccinations and shot@life.

Every twenty seconds a child dies of a preventable disease.
Only twenty dollars saves the life of a child.
Twenty bloggers are making a difference!

shot@life and Sisters From Another Mister

I am so so excited to share that I am one of the bloggers that have teamed up with Nicole of Sisters From Another Mister, shot@life, and the United Nations Foundation to announce a link up to share our stories about motherhood.

Join us for a Mother’s Day meme link up that will begin on May 8th and run through the 18th. You can help us make a difference in the world.

Our words will raise awareness for global vaccinations and raise money for those who do not have the means to help themselves …because every child deserves a shot@life.

Here’s how the link up will work: On May 8th, the link up will go live on Nicole’s Sisters From Another Mister blog. From there, you can visit the 20 other bloggers above and read their posts and help support their efforts. You can comment on their posts, and we hope that you will also write your own post. Linkers and commenters will have a chance to win one of several giveaways.

Mother’s Day Shot@Life Link Up

It will be easy for you to join in and show your support!

You can write a post and come back between May 8th – 18th to link it up on the main page. Write about anything that has to do with motherhood: about being a Mom, having a Mom, knowing a Mom, what being a Mom means to you, about wanting to be a Mom. Write about your mom friends, or a mom who makes a difference.

To show your support when you link and comment, make a small donation (any amount will help support children in need!) Remember that all donations are tax deductible.

Tell your friends about this! Even if you cannot donate, you can share, tweet, and read them all!

Know that by helping us spread the word and by leaving comments, and sharing your story YOU are making a difference!

Spring Clean With The Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit ::GIVEAWAY::

Disclaimer:  The Shaklee Corporation provided me with one free Shaklee Get Clean® Kit to review; my opinions and experiences are my own.

The spring season always means two things: that hot weather is going to start showing up here in So Cal and that I’ll be doing lots of spring cleaning. I love the deep cleaning that the house gets and the stress relief I get from doing it all. When Shaklee asked if they could send me one of their Shaklee Get Glean kits, I of course said yes!

shaklee_get_clean

What makes Shaklee Get Clean so special? All of the Get Clean products are formulated without volatile organic cleaning compounds. So you save money without dirtying the earth. Everything is biodegradable and safe to use around family and pets. All of the materials that the Shaklee Get Clean products come are recyclable (even the wipes and dryer sheets can be recycled!) and environmentally friendly. So if you have been thinking about switching to green cleaning, now’s the time!

Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit

I received the Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit. You don’t just get a couple of products, either….check out all that comes in just one kit:

shaklee_get_clean_starter_kit

That’s a lot of stuff, right?! It’s everything you need to start cleaning the green way and keep cleaning the green way. Another reason that I was excited to try out these products is because a little goes a long way…look at this chart to see all the value of just this one kit!

shaklee_get_clean

shaklee_get_clean_super_cleaning_concentrate So let me tell you a little about how well Shaklee Get Clean products work. This is the Shaklee Get Clean Super Cleaning Concentrate. You’ll use this to make your all-purpose cleaner, window cleaner, and degreaser. But don’t worry – you don’t have to run out and buy bottles for each because a cleaning bottle for each of the cleaners you make with this concentrate comes with the kit.

Just this 16 ounces of organic solution will make 48 gallons of all-purpose cleaner! You’ll rarely have to buy anything else to clean with throughout the year!

I love this because I can spray it on the counter right before the kids eat and not have to worry about them touching the counters and putting their hands in their mouths and getting sick. It sounds weird, but with three kids under the age of 6, it happens.

This stuff WORKS! It works quickly and easily and doesn’t leave a yucky film or streak marks on my counters, tables, walls, or anywhere else I spray it.

I love that you have to use such a small bit of the dishwasher detergent…a little really goes a long way and get dishes not just clean, but sparkling clean. No little leftover bits of food dried on (even if you don’t scrub your dishes before putting them in!).

My favorite product out of the kit is the microfibre window cloth. Used along with the window cleaner, my windows and mirrors sparkle like never before. I was amazed that it didn’t leave any smudges or streaks…heck, it works better than my good old vinegar and water!

I’ve also been extremely impressed with how well the laundry products work. The Nature Bright Laundry Booster and Stain Remover is now a staple in my laundry room, and you have to use so little of the Fresh Laundry Concentrate works better than the name brand that I’ve been using. Who knew using green laundry products could get your clothes just as clean as all those harsh chemicals do!

The Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit can be purchased from the Shaklee site as well as other Shaklee Get Glean kits. The starter kit retails for $115.32 (worth every penny, people!), and here’s the best part of this entire review: I have another Shaklee Get Clean Starter Kit to giveaway to one of you lucky readers! You can find all the official contest rules here. Good luck!

On Bed Wetting: Still Having Good Nights With GoodNites!

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of GoodNites. I received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for my participation. Bed wetting is no longer a headache!

bed wetting mats

Bed Wetting and GoodNites

Earlier this month, I told you about the difference between potty training and bed wetting. An easy way to remember this is that bed wetting is NOT something that your child can control. But GoodNites bed mats can help make clean up easier and help your child not worry about accidents.

I’ve been using GoodNites for a couple of months now, and it has become one of the few products that I recommend to all moms. These bed mats are easy to use and disposable. I love that you can keep them on the bed until they are used – you don’t need to change them every night and waste them.

I also like how comfortable the kids are with having them on their beds; they know if they have an accident that it’s okay…that the GoodNites bed mats will catch the mess.

I appreciate that the mats can be put under sheets or over sheets. My children rarely wet the bed, so we use it under the sheets as extra protection. If your child wets the bed frequently, you can stick them right on top of the sheets! No sheet change!

If you are currently experiencing bed wetting issues with your child or children, I encourage you to give GoodNites a try! I also encourage you to be patient and not to get discouraged or upset with your child…remember, bed wetting is something that they have no control over, but will (eventually) grow out of. Did you know that 1 out of 9 children experience bed wetting? It’s a rather common issue, so know that your child is in the norm.

I also encourage you to head over to the GoodNites site to learn more about bed wetting and to take the Better Night Test. Information is power, and parents can use all the help that we can get!

If you are ready to try the mats out yourself, head over and get your $2 off GoodNites coupon. Note: the coupon will expire 2 weeks after you print it out, so make sure not to print it until you are ready to use it!

Does your child experience bed wetting? How do you handle it?

Looking for a Workout Video? Try Sara Haley’s Sweat Unlimited

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the Sweat Unlimited workout video to facilitate this review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I know, I know…you can’t believe I’m actually on a diet. After all, the last couple of days I’ve done nothing but blog about wine, wine glasses, and delectable cooking from scratch recipes. But I can indulge occasionally because I’ve been working out like a crazy woman and trying to get myself back into shape! And so that I can have a glass of wine or a sinful snack, I have been using Sara Haley’s Sweat Unlimited workout video.

Sweat Unlimited Workout Video

Now I am already doing an exercise program that keeps me sweating 5 days a week. But on my free days, I like to mix things up and try out new workouts that keep me interested and on my toes. The Sweat Unlimited workout video does that.

Whether I have just a few minutes or an hour to spare, there’s a workout on the DVD for me. Workouts range from 5 to 45 minutes, so you really have no excuse to not get moving. It’s fast paced to keep your heart rate up and burn more calories more quickly. It’s perfect if you are a busy mom with no extra time to spend for hours at the gym.

Better yet, you don’t even have to go to the gym to get in great shape. These workouts were designed for the fit and healthy woman who is looking to stay active and energized during a busy day. Only have time for one workout in the morning? No problem. Choose another one to do in the evening.

Here is what you will get:

There are 4 different workouts with a bonus stretch routine and a mix and match option menu.

    • Sweat Extreme 5: Trigger, Tone, and Tighten: 5 minutes of Sara’s most effective and energizing exercises that wake up, strengthen and challenge your entire body.
    • Sweat Strength 15: Burn, Baby, Burn: 15 minutes of total body sculpting that keeps your heart rate up and your muscles burning
    • Sweat Cardio 30: Pop, Rock and Drop: 30 minutes of fat-burning cardio drills consisting of moves inspired by the dance club, rock ‘n roll and break dancing (plus a warm up and a cool down)
    • Sweat Box 45: 45 minutes of Tabata-inspired intervals that alternate between boxing drills and core exercises to give you a metabolic burn and core blast
    • BONUS: Sweat Stretch 5: Reach, Relax, and Rejuvenate: 5 minutes to breathe, stretch and relax as  you focus on decreasing muscle soreness

My favorites so far are the Sweat Extreme 5, which makes for a great warm up, and Sweat Stretch 5, which I’ve been using daily to end all my workouts. Sweat Strength 15 really does make it burn, and Sweat Box 45 is a hard core workout that will have you feeling on top of the world. I’ll be honest, cardio isn’t my thing, but the Cardio 30 is a pretty fun workout!

Here’s a peak at what you can expect out of Sweat Unlimited…

Are you ready to sweat? Head over and purchase the Sweat Unlimited workout video for yourself. Follow Sarah Haley on Facebook and Twitter too! No more excuses…you can do this!

“Homemade With Love” Cookbook Review: A Must Have If You Love To Cook!

Disclosure: I received a copy of Homemade With Love cookbook in exchange for this review. All opinions expressed are my own.

As an avid reader and wanna be foodie, cookbooks are more than just books to me. A beautifully photographed cookbook can keep me entertained for hours. My cookbooks are earmarked, have notes scribbled in them, and have spills that litter the pages. Some have been handed down to me, others purchased for me, or purchased myself. I love them all. And I’m excited to have added the Homemade With Love cookbook by Jennifer Perillo to my collection.

Homemade With Love Cookbook

homemade_with_love_cookbook

The name Jennifer Perillo might sound familiar – if you read a lot of food blogs you may be familiar with the author’s blog In Jennie’s Kitchen. She’s all about cooking from scratch, but don’t get scared! It’s much simpler than it might sound.

Homemade With Love is so much more than just another cookbook. Sure you’ll find tips, advice, and amazing recipes, but you’ll feel like you are sitting down and talking to a friend. She shares recipes the whole family will enjoy, while making the recipes simple to follow and understand.

homemade_with_love_cookbook The introduction explains how and why Perillo started blogging, and how the book came about. If you’re a home cook that finds cooking from scratch, buying local, and eating a home-cooked meal with family and friends important, this book is a must have.

The photography is stunning and simple. The pictures aren’t perfect, and look like meals that you probably would be willing to put in front of your family tonight. Not sure where to get started? Perillo even tells you how to set up a homemade kitchen, pantry, fridge, and freezer.

If you have special dietary needs, this book is for you too! There are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and even adaptable recipes included. I love that she labels the recipes that can be made ahead, made in just an hour, or even made in 30 minutes or less. It makes weeknight meal planning much easier.

The very first recipe in the book is a recipe for all-purpose baking mix. Say goodbye to boxed cake, muffin, and pancake mixes! No preservatives or artificial anything, and all ingredients that I bet you already have in the pantry.

You know I love me some grilled cheese sandwiches…there’s a recipe for Apple, Cheddar, and Pancetta Paninis that I can’t wait to try on my next cheat day!

And while I’ve already earmarked more than half of the 230+ pages, by far my favorite section that I’m looking forward to trying myself is the section on canning. Our plum and peach trees have more fruit on them than I can count, and I really want to try preserving some of them this year instead of  giving away (or throwing away) all that beautiful unused fruit.

The Homemade with Love cookbook is a beautiful cookbook that I will be using for years to come. It’s also attractive enough to set on a table as a coffee table book – I have had several friends over who thumbed through it and asked to borrow it!

To find out where you can get a copy of the Homemade with Love cookbook for yourself (or as a gift for the foodies in your life!), visit In Jennie’s Kitchen.
