At the very beginning of January, I wrote a post titled Talking Taboo: How Much Do You Make With Your Blog and the response to the post told me that this was a topic that bloggers wanted to talk about…a topic that needed to be addressed. Clearly I don’t have all the answers – I’m still trying to figure it out much like all of you are. But I figured that if I asked the right people, I might be able to get the answers to the questions that you had. So I talked with my fairy blogmother/business partner Gigi over at Kludgy Mom, and we decided to take this topic on.
Fortunately, when I reached out to some other friends, they were also interested in helping me lift the veil on making money in blogging. I was able to get together a group of bloggers who are willing to help share with you what they’ve learned about making money. We are going to be honest, open, and give you some general information on how YOU can monetize your blog.
Some of you might not want to monetize, and guess what? We’re going to talk about that, too.
We’ll be talking about freelancing, sponsored posts, ads, brand ambassadorships, product reviews, and more – and how much to charge for these things. We’ll be talking about media kits, how to pitch a brand, why people do and don’t monetize, and fears about monetizing.
We’ll be talking about all of these things starting next week on Thursday, February 16th. It’s going to be a blog hop that you won’t want to miss!
So whose blogs can you expect to visit?
Katie – Sluiter Nation
Devan - Accustomed Chaos
Tina – Life Without Pink
Debbie – The Truth About Motherhood
Kristin – What She Said
Alex – Late Enough
And of course Gigi and I will be joining in too!
If you left a question on my last post, we will be answering them, as well. If you have a question you’d like answered, please feel free to leave it in the comments section below!

Looking forward to this!
I haven’t yet decided if I want to monetize my blog. I kind of do, but then I’m on the fence because I’d like it to be unintrusive. I don’t want insane ads and 17 giveaways a week. I just want to make enough to tell my husband to stop bitching about the time I spend blogging lol.

I am so glad you are doing this. It is sure to be a very interesting discussion.
I have a couple of questions: How do you balance it all… your own blog and a freelance position without letting anything (either blog, your children and other responsibilities) suffer?
Also, how do you write reviews or host giveaways on your personal blog without feeling or more importantly sounding like a chessy-marketing-sell out
Looking forward to reading all the ladies’ responses!

ehhh, most people have no idea on how to generate income online, or blogging for that matter. I think it’s because people don’t understand the actions and steps…they know the principles behind it, but can’t implement them. It’s also a lot harder than people let on.
I think the readers here will benefit from my Guest Blogging Secrets, a new blog that talks all about how to exactly make money by blogging.
This is great! I am looking forward on Feb 16… I’l keep coming back to read more of your blogs.

This is a great topic and something I am interested in if I ever get it together enough to blog regularly
Something I am VERY interested in learning more about is affiliate links. How to use them effectively. I think this would be a better fit for me (especially right now) but am really not sure how to use them in the best way possible.

Thank you for this . . . the monetizing aspect of blogging is something that has completely mystified me. Obviously, I wouldn’t mind making a dollar or two from the blog, but I’m not sure that I’m willing to put the work into my blog to make it an actual source of income.
Just, please, through all of this, please mention how you’re handling taxes & reporting of income, because I’m guessing that’s an oft-overlooked aspect of the money making.

Have to second John about taxes and reporting! But I’m probably getting a bit ahead of myself…if you’re just in the thinking stages about wanting to make a profit with your blog, how do you suggest growing your readership to get to that point? And at what point (concerning amount of traffic to your site) can you realistically consider monetizing? Hope that makes sense!
