Mommy of a Monster’s Best Of 2010: My Favorite Posts Of The Year

I’m sure you’ve all seen the ‘Best Of’ lists that are all over the blogosphere right now. Some people are posting their best pictures of 2010, best posts, some are doing recipes, and one of my favorite bloggers – Gigi at Kludgy Mom – put together a Top 50 Chick Bloggers of 2010…and I am happy to announce that I made the list! Yay! I’m under the “Marvelous Moms” category. So check out her list because you’ll see lots of familiar names, and you’ll find some new ones to check out, too!

So back to the Best Of…I decided to do the ‘Favorite Posts of 2010’ with a twist. I’ll give a list of my favorite posts by month as well as your favorite Mommy of a Monster post. This was determined very scientifically (not really at all scientific, but it sounds very intriguing doesn’t it?): by the number of comments left. That’s how I determined the most popular post of the month.

Here goes!

January & February
None because I didn’t start blogging until March

March
My Favorite: My Nana
This is the second post I ever wrote. My Nana had just passed away and it’s a post about her life: being married for 61 years with 9 kids, 30 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Talk about Super Mom!

Your Favorite: What Nobody Tells You About Motherhood Before You Have Children
The title speaks for itself, but could I have possibly made it any longer?!

April
My Favorite: That Kid’s Got A Mouth Like A Long Haul Trucker
Seriously, what’s up with my never ending titles? This one is funny. It’s about Tater’s potty mouth.

We Just Don’t Do It Right
This was a post I wrote for National Infertility Awareness Week. I was so relieved to find out that we were not alone in our quest to have babies.

Your Favorite: ‘Anonymous’ Left Me My First Negative Comment
Still one of my most viewed posts, even though most people don’t comment on it. The comment was left in regards to my post about Tater’s potty mouth.

May
My Favorite: The Wedding Of My Dreams
A post about our wedding and how we got a very lucky twist in regards to our honeymoon.

Your Favorite: You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze
Most of the comments were about relating to the bomb blowing up in the toy room before 7 am and the button on jeans never being buttoned.

June
My Favorite: Dad-isms
My dad is quite the character, so for Father’s Day we put together a poster full of all of his most famous words of wisdom (or bullshit, depending who you ask).

Your Favorite: Cuz I Gotta Have Faith
Written about how I lost faith in God after my mother-in-law passed away.

I Don’t Feel Like Being A Mom Today
If I remember correctly, this was the first time I was 100% honest in admitting that being a mom sometimes sucks. This was the post that made me realize that people want to read about the negative part of being a mom too because it makes them feel not so alone when they feel the same way.

July
My Favorite: Pictures That Should Be Framed & Hanging, But Aren’t
And after seeing this post again, I think I have to do another one because now there are even more pictures that I’d love to hang!

Your Favorite: I’m Back…Kinda
I opened up about my battle with depression, and COULD NOT BELIEVE the amazing amount of support that I got from you all. That support helped me more than I can ever say.

August
My Favorite: The Birthday Party
Celebrating Tater’s 3rd birthday and the twins’ 1st birthday.

Your Favorite: Baby Jail
I laugh every single time I see these pictures!

September
My Favorite: White Trash Backyard Bash
This party was SO much fun! And believe it or not, this post is the most viewed post on my entire blog. I get more traffic from Google from people searching “white trash party” than any other key word searches.

Your Favorite: The Doggy/Baby Door
Note To Self: People like seeing pictures of the twins in action. Post more twin pictures.

October
My Favorite: A Long Awaited Brief Encounter
A piece of fiction that I wrote about introducing my mother-in-law to the kids. I’d give just about anything for this to really be able to happen.

Your Favorite: Stuck In An Elevator
A piece of fiction that had you guys believing it was real. It was a good one!

November
My Favorite: Mommy of a Monster Bracelet Giveaway
I mean really, how many people can say they have a piece of jewelry named after them! (Thanks again Betsy!)

Your Favorite: Bloggy Burn Out
I’ll admit, this is one of my favorites, too. And this is another post that proves that writing about negative things that happen in life isn’t bad…it’s relatable and proves to others that when they feel the same way, they are not alone.

December
My Favorite: The New Tattoo
I finally get a chance to show off my newest tattoo!

Your Favorite: Say Cheese
Oh, the goofy faces that kids make when they hear the words “Say Cheese!”

And there you have it! My favorites and your favorites of 2010. This was a really fun post to do, and if you haven’t done one you should…it gives you a chance to go back and review all of your posts through the year, and revisit some memories!

This is my last post of 2010.

Thank you for being such amazing friends and for allowing me to glimpse into your lives to see the good, the bad, and the ugly. I love that we’ve been able to share all of it.

Thanks to those of you who coaxed me into trying to write fiction. I love it. I love everything about it, and I can’t wait to do more. Your words of encouragement mean more than I can ever express.

And to all of you, thank you for your support, your cheers, your tears, and for reading my blog. Because when I started this blog back in March, I was sure nobody would be interested. I’m glad that you have proved me wrong, and pushed me to continue.

The Candy Bandit Strikes Yet Again

A little less than a month after I started this blog, I wrote a post titled The Candy Bandit Strikes Again. It only got 6 comments, but I think this was the post that I noticed people I didn’t know were actually reading my blog. It’s a cute post – you should really read it if you haven’t. I’ll wait.

So back to today…Tater never goes into his bedroom to do anything but sleep. Or if we send him there on a time out. But today, while I was cleaning, he said “I’m going to my room”, walked upstairs, and shut the door. He was in there for about 20 minutes. I did not check on him because I figured he was playing. Well that, and because I was scared of what I would find. He came back out and asked to watch Max and Ruby. I said okay, and decided I’d better check out the damage he left in his room.

I approach the room, hesitantly.

I open the door, afraid of what I’ll find…

I expect to find a mess. PlayDoh in the carpet. Marker and crayon drawings on the wall. Clothes pulled out of all the drawers. Maybe worse. But nothing seems amiss.

And then I see this:

Candy? What the hell? I have NO IDEA where he got this candy from. I did not give it to him. I have not seen any candy like this anywhere else in the house. Maybe it was a gift from somebody that I didn’t know about? That he decided to hide from me?

I tried to look on the bright side. Other than some empty wrappers and a few crumbs, not a huge mess for me to clean up. And he did leave more uneaten candies than eaten ones.
Side Note: Candy has been hidden to be eaten by me at a later time to be disposed of by me tomorrow.
I posted a review of a really, and I mean really CRAPPY product over at This Blogger Makes Fun of Stuff. Go check it out!
And so it goes…

Sometimes I Make Fun of Stuff

I make fun of stuff. I know. Hard to believe, right? But yes, I make fun of stuff on occasion. Sometimes probably more than I should. When you are as sarcastic as I am, it comes with the territory.

So when Alex from late enough hit me up to see if I’d be interested in joining her and a few other bloggers to kick off her new review website, I said of course! Because (A) it’s Alex asking and (B) there are lots of things I’d love to review, but I don’t want to turn this blog into nothing but reviews and giveaways.

And with that, I became one of the pioneers of her new review site: This Blogger Makes Fun of Stuff. There are a few other bloggers that you already know who are also part of the new gig, you can check us all out here.

http://www.makesfunofstuff.com/

Alex came up with the idea after trying to find a real, honest review of a game she wanted to get her for her son. She found lots of reviews that said the exact same thing that the box already told her. What she didn’t find was a review that told her whether or not the game really rocked or if it really sucked. And so This Blogger Makes Fun of Stuff was born.

We have one rule for guideline for things we review on This Blogger Makes Fun of Stuff: to tell the truth. Some posts might be review/giveaway posts. Some might be about products, services, places, or things that we just found and wanted to tell you about. Some might be cool and interesting, and some reviews might be mundane – because let’s face it, we use both. But we guarantee you this….any review we post will be HONEST.

For example, I’m going to post a review there later this week about a Gerber product I recently purchased. It didn’t live up to my expectations and hopes, which is really just a nice way of saying it sucked. It’s not the kind of review I’d normally post here because it’s not really relevant to the types of things I usually post about except on Flip Off Fridays, and maybe I will post it about it then, too.

I’m also going to post about Butt Paste because it’s my favorite Mommy Must Have product and if you don’t know about it or haven’t tried it, you should.

No company or PR firm asked me to post these. I’m posting them because I feel strongly about them both (in two very different ways).

So there you have it! Go check out our new review site This Blogger Makes Fun of Stuff…we are VERY excited about it! If you like what you see, please subscribe by RSS feed so that you can keep up to date on our posts.

And could you help us spread the word? I’d be forever in your debt!

– If you tweet like an addict like I do and like to help your friends out, could you please follow @MakesFun and give us a shout out, asking your followers to follow us too?

– If you like what you see, can you also like our Makes Fun of Stuff fan page on Facebook?

– If you have an Etsy shop, or know somebody that does, please let them know we’d love to discuss review/giveaway opportunities with them, and possibly free advertising opportunities!

I’d love to hear what you think about it! The good, the bad, and the ugly; let me know if you like it or not. And thanks as always for all of your support…it means the world to me!

On a totally separate note, I am SO GLAD the holidays are over and that life will get back to normal. I’m tired. And if anybody wants to come over and spend 4 or 5 hours taking down my Christmas village, please feel free because I’m definitely not looking forward to it!

Also congrats to Erica (buzzinbalms@gmail.com) – you won my Tassimo Brewbot giveaway! You have 48 hours to email me your contact information!

And so it goes…

We Did It!

We Did It! 100,000 Days of Clean Drinking Water

Thanks to so many of you, Mommy of a Monster and Twins has helped generate 100,000 days of clean drinking water through P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (P&G CSDW). We crossed the finish line with hundreds of other bloggers who embedded the P&G Clean Water Blogivation widget on their sites. Every time a reader clicked, P&G committed to make one day (2 liters) of clean drinking water available to someone in need in a developing country.

To help you, understand the impact we all made by pitching in with the Blogivation, check out this video about P&G CSDW’s work in Tanzania. It’s just one of the many stories about people who P&G CSDW – with the help of partners like World Vision, CARE, Save the Shildren and others – has been able to provide access to clean drinking water.

The PUR packet – developed by P&G in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – is an innovation that quickly turns contaminated water into clean, drinkable water. Every day more than 4,000 children in developing countries die, simply because they don’t have clean drinking water, and more than 1 billion people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water.

For that reason, Mommy of a Monster and Twins is so excited to have been able to make a positive impact through the P&G Clean Water Blogivation on Changents.com. You can stay involved on the P&G myGIVE Facebook page – for each new “like” and “share” through January 31, P&G will donate an extra day of clean water – and continue supporting extraordinary Change Agents around the world through Changents.com, our partner in helping P&G rally our readers to GIVE a day of water.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post on Twitter and Facebook!

I’m Not Here #2

I’m not here today…well, I’m here just to tell you that I’m really not here but over at Our Mommyhood talking about our family Christmas Eve tradition and why it is so important to us.
So go check out my post over there!

I want to take a minute to tell each and every one of you how much I’ve appreciated your support and friendship over this past year. It’s so nice to have become part of such an amazing community of women.

Enjoy your holidays!
