You know you’re a mom who survived potty training when…
Buying a t-shirt that says “I survived potty training” doesn’t seem like such a bad idea
Before getting in the car, you ask other grown ups if they have to go potty first
“Taking a walk on the wild side” includes taking your newly potty trained toddler to Target with big boy underwear on instead of a diaper
You make a bigger deal of your little one going #2 in the big boy potty than you would if you won the lottery
Everybody gets called into the bathroom to look in the toilet and clap when your toddler goes in it
Without even a timer, you remember to ask your toddler if he has to go potty every 5 minutes
Bribery has proven to be an effective and useful training tool
You start thinking about what you can spend the money on since you don’t have to buy $50 worth of diapers every month….mani/pedi here I come!
You dread the thought of doing it all over again…with the twins…in another year!

And so it goes…

That is so awesome! Just wait, you will have $150 each month when the twins are done. That's like a fabu massage or something extra nice! Congrats…can't wait until I'm there!
Oh these are classic! Especially the gathering at the toilet to clap to a job well done.
Bribery, Oh Sweet Bribery!!! LOVE IT!
I ask EVERYONE is they have to go potty-my hubs, child, dog, friends-everyone.
I love all of these, but quite frankly I'm scared. I'll be potty training my youngest in a matter of months and I'm so not looking forward to it. I don't know what I was thinking when I had another baby. I mean come on…I have a 15, 13 and 7 year old. They're already potty trained and make their own cereal. I'm starting all over again. lol
Thanks for stopping by. I loved this post. Too funny!

@TweetingMama
PS I'm totally glad that I had my youngest. She's an absolute joy and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!
LOL. I probably would appreciate you asking if I have to go potty. I usually don't think of it until I'm in the care and need to go. Enjoy your monthly mani/pedis and you totally deserve the t-shirt.
Um… let me guess, "potty" and "training" are the big buzz words in your house these days?!
When do I need to start by the way? Any tips and tricks you can pass my way would be most appreciated.
This is great! And so true….I remember my heart beating faster on those first few outings in big boy/big girl undies! They were almost more exciting for ME than for the kids!
I STILL find myself asking everyone (adults included) if they need to go potty….probably because I never pass up and opportunity to go myself!
Great mom list, Natalie!
That was funny. Thanks for the smile.
Spot on and PERFECT! It really is ridiculous when you think about the things we do. Especially the clapping and jumping up and down joy and clown show we put on just to pump the kids up for going poop in the pot. But hey, whatever works.
As far as the extra money goes. Somehow, I never seem to notice the extra cash. Like really, I WAS spending at least 50 bucks a month on those diapers. Where is that money now? Hmmmmm.
Not there yet and SOOOO not looking forward to it. I don't know what I'm gonna do when I have to start taking my baby girl to public restrooms to use the toilet. YUCK!!!
That is so funny. And yay you and Tater for successful potty training!
Hahahaha! Congrats to you guys – that's so huge! I thought I was all kinds of badass when my son potty trained… and then when he voluntarily and on his own gave up pull-ups over night… until he started using "I have to go potty" to delay bedtime… 16 times. Gah. I often tell people I'm headed to the potty. It's shameful. I mean, like my OB/GYN. Doh. I also, btw, baked a pottycake. Yeah. When my kiddo did the deed in the potty the first time, we threw him a "Potty" (pronounced "Poh… tay" like we are snobby Brits or something)… get it? Pun? Sigh… I need to get out more. Anyway, congrats on little dude using the big potty!
LOL – these are all way too familiar. I'm tinkering with potty training Presley but I think her brain knows what to do but her bladder is way behind. Honestly, I can't wait to get her out of diapers.
I remember the fear the first time we headed out with Kate in undies.
And I'll tell ya that our PED said it's all about the bribery!
congratulations! training boys are harder in my opinion. we are still struggling er…trying. my daughter was a breeze. When she was 2 she told me she wanted little mermaid panties and she hated it when she had an accident. i hope the same for you and your girls!
Potty training stories hits close to home. Can't wait till they're out and we get a raise! No more diapers to buy! Just joined, great site!
good ones!
my husband still asks our kids every 5 minutes if they need to go potty and they're 7 and 5. I actually have a draft post about it. I'm like, dude, they've been potty trained for YEARS!!! They're OK!!
Word, sister. Word to it all.
Does it make me a freak if I already ask other people if they have to use the bathroom before leaving? You know, though I don't have any kids and the people are my friends?
I swear, I could have written this one a few years ago! We had parades more exciting than returning heroes get for a poop in the potty!
We even sang a song, which I'll perform for you now.
"You are a super dooper pooper, you can potty with the best. Take a bow, you're a big kid now, you're the best pooper we know!"
potty training makes me afraid. I choose to not think about it. ahhh!
I have not yet survived it. I'm thinking there may be a chance that I don't.
Great post! I can relate to these! Especially the one about "taking a walk on the wild side". I was always so afraid to take my potty trained toddler anywhere for a while. Now, I don't worry about it since she thinks she needs to go to every public restroom out there! YUCK!
Good luck with round 2 with twins!
I take great joy and sick satisfaction in asking adults if they've gone potty.
I have always had the impulse to ask adults if they need to use the restroom….because my father seems to go more often than most children. And yet he's perfectly healthy…we've checked.
I think he just likes to investigate the bathroom.
I don't even want to imagine potty training twins. No thanks. Good luck when the time comes. Lots and lots of luck. I hate potty training.
LoL Oh, I so feel you on this one! I want the shirt. I *deserve* the shirt. My son is 4 1/2 & is pretty much potty trained while awake. We only got pooping in the potty regularly in the last couple months. He was a stockpiler…which is so much fun for mommy.
The best? is when I'd get a call from my babysitter while at my desk at work. His treat for going in the potty? Was that he got to call me at work and tell me about it. Real blast having the "OMG! You Pooped!?!" conversation in a room full of coworkers. Especially that time he called to tell me that it looked just like a banana. My coworkers then wanted to know what other shapes he could do & began offering suggestions… *sigh*
I just survived potty train too, and agree with EVERY SINGLE STATEMENT! I really hope potty training girls is easier than boys. It has to be easier, right? I hope so.
The joys of potty training! How about this…
You know you're a mom when there are times (like when out to eat and the toddler announces a potty break is needed right as your food comes), that you think a diaper would be a blessing right about now
Very funny stuff!! I can't imagine PT the girls. I hear it's easier with girls, but who knows! We can always hope, right??
So true! I am always asking the question "do you need to go potty?" Bribery is the only thing that worked for us when it came to #2 in the potty LOL! Sometimes you just do what you gotta do! LOL
Ack, I never even thought of how hard it would be to potty train twins! It was a nightmare for me with just one at a time! And the "I Survived Potty Training" shirts? Seriously not a bad idea at all… ; )
You totally hit this one home! You know we are in the midst of this as well and I feel like I need a shirt saying…we are still potty training!
you are hilarious girl..
Found you via the link-up…
Love these, and especially relate to the asking adults if they need to potty before getting in the car! I had some friends stop by in the middle of a road trip and followed them out to the car before they left to remind them to use the bathroom. So embarrassing. (Why did I do that?!)
I'm about to start all over with #2 child.
Congrats to you. I can almost bet that it'll be easier with the twins! at least I hope so.
These are hilarious. Love the one about you asking the grown ups if they have to potty. So glad I'm done with the potty training days. Can I say that?
PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!!! Love this list! We have survived P.T'ing my youngest just this summer and it was hellish (she was WAY TOO OLD and was SO STUBBORN!) so I applaud you and the little one! (I love the, "Before getting in the car, you ask other grown ups if they have to go potty first" – that's fanTAStic, and I'm guilty of doing just that!!!) Love this one, as always!
I am so dreading potty training the twins. I potty trained my oldest, isn't that good enough?
I have occasionally slipped and asked my husband if he has to go potty. We always have a good laugh over that one.
So glad Hank is finally potty trained. I thought I was going to send him to the prom in diapers. I can't imagine doing 2 at a time. Good luck with that!
OMG potty training is #1 on the list of ways we "pay for our raisin'." Doing it with twins? I think I would go for elective surgery of some awful sort just to be put out of commission (uh, make somebody else do it). Like that would happen. The first time my first kid did #2 in the potty I was so jubilant (screaming and clapping) that I scared him into giving up potty training for a while.
Can I get an amen?!? I too ask other adults if they need to use the bathroom. Applause in the bathroom, common occurence. Yep…this is what makes us happy people
How hilariously true! Especially asking grown ups if they need to use the restroom before heading out. Don't they look at you like you're crazy?
I'm your newest follower!
Ummm….going through potty training I see? SOOO funny! Making a big deal about going #2: hilarious. All of those are spot on. When my son was learning, I pretended to be a train so he had to hop on the "potty train" as we made our way to the bathroom, all the while, I''m making train sounds like a fool. Good times. Wonder what it will be with my daughter?
Forget first smile, crawling, first steps- potty training is the BEST milestone! My now almost 5 year old took forever to train (almost a year and we're still working on nighttime) and I was soooo happy when he was done just to have one less person's poop to deal with. I felt like I crossed over to the dark side when I actually took a picture of him next to his first pee in the potty- so gross, but yet it was a very exciting moment!
LOL. Now you got me all scared for potty training. ;o)
I'm still nervous about taking him out without his pull up hahaha. Great job Tater and Mommy! Yahooo for that extra $50 for a meni-pedi
It really is embarrassing when you catch yourself using the word potty in adult conversation!
So true! I'm beginning potty training with my second and not looking forward to it!
Ok, take THREE
I was laughing all the way to the potty on that one. My husband and i were out by ourselves the other night and he got up from the table and said, "I'll be right back I have to go potty." We just looked at each other and laughed.
