You Know You’re a Mom When-sDaze

You know you’re a mom when…

You miss just being bored and doing nothing (thanks to Katie at Desperate for Coffee for this one!)

You drive in the car alone for 15 minutes humming along with the radio before you realize that it’s Barney the dinosaur you’re listening to (yes, I just did this one on Thursday)!

You *fumble* around in the dark looking for a spit out pacifier, praying to God that you will find it before having to turn on a light!

You go to a 4th of July party and end up sitting on the living room carpet watching babies play while everybody else is outside enjoying the sunshine and the pool

At said party, you end up taking turns with other moms watching each other’s kids so everybody can scarf down a plate of food or use the bathroom without toting the kids in with them

Your 3 year old watches about 2-1/2 minutes of fireworks before announcing that he’s ready to go inside to drink juice

Your 4th of July evening ends with you being home in bed by 10 pm…just 45 minutes or so after the fireworks show has ended

You’re glad that you are a mom instead of in your twenties again dealing with a horrible hangover the next day!

Everybody knows how much I love You Know You’re a Mom When-sDaze…did you know I also participate in Wordless/Wordful Wednesday? Check it out here!

I want to thank everybody that read my post about my struggles with depression that I posted on Monday. I can’t begin to describe how important your support is to me! Thank you for not only listening to me, but for also sharing your stories with me. Your honesty, support, and trust leaves me speechless. So thank you.

I love your post because, it is so true. Our 4th party was me trying to scarf down food while everyone else was hanging out. We drove to the beach, searched for a parking spot, scouted out a spot, let the kids play while we waited and waited for the dark, then both my boys fell asleep on me before the fireworks even began. LOL I feel your pain!

  2. Allyson & Jere says:

Loved the pacifier one. That is me ALL the time. "please, oh please, oh PLEASE let me find it."

  3. Nina @ Momma Go Round says:

Awesome…I'm not the only one praying to the binkie gods multiple times a day. I swear LJ might die without his!

Hope you are having a better day and feeling better :)

Gotcha on the baby/mommy blog votes!

  4. Kristin @ Peace, Love and Muesli says:

We didn't even make it to our Canada Day fireworks. Sparklers and bed for 8pm.

  5. Pumpkin and Piglet says:

I've often found myself singing nursery rhymes out loud in public without Piglet. The problem is I don't usually realise I am doing it until people start giving me funny looks :)

  6. KLZ says:

Hangovers seem like just the ultimate waste of time to me now.

  7. The Mommy says:

How hilarious! I agree with all if them, especially the first and second one. I'm glad I don't have to deal with the third one now!

"You're glad that you are a mom instead of in your twenties again dealing with a horrible hangover the next day!"

    HA! So true.

  9. Melissa (Confessions of a Dr. Mom) says:

These are great! Especially the one about playing with the kids inside and trying to scarf down a plate of food. I used to get so annoyed with my hubby when he'd be all relaxing and enjoying the party…uh…hello…I'm over here..a little help please?

  13. Julie says:

You nailed it with the pacifier!! I'm laughing at that. So true!!

And drinking juice is very important…don't ya know!! Gotta stay hydrated!

  14. Sherri says:

We used to keep SO MANY pacifiers in and around my son's crib, yet the fumbling in the dark happened anyway. I became like a magnet for those things and could always find one!

I remember those "parties" hanging out with so many little ones, taking bathroom turns and scarfing down plates of food! Someday it will seem like a distant memory…but it sure defines a big chunk of your life!

  15. Katherine says:

Haha! I love the 4th of July ones…that was so me on Sunday only, I was the one mom stuck watching everyone elses kids…how the heck did that happen!?

    Great post!

    Also? I'm your newest follower!

It's so nice to hear your generation share the joys of young motherhood… at least you didn't tell another grown-up that you had to go pottie in the middle of a very upscale dinner party… these are such wonderful days… enjoy every second… and come visit when you can…

This is a day in my life!!

  18. Claudia says:

Sounds very familiar – my husband still cares for the babies and toddlers at a party – because our kids are teenagers now – and he misses to watch children's movies with them… ;=)

  19. cooperl788 says:

I've been halfway to a destination in the car without my baby before realizing I was still listening to her music and singing along. Love this post! I voted for you on Top Mommy Blogs!

  20. Holly says:

Oh the dreaded pacifier fumble! UGH! This was the first 4th since my youngest where I was not inside the whole time…although I was the only parent checking on the kids periodically.

  21. Gypsy says:

What about when you rewrite popular songs to make them about your kid? Just me? Oh no!

    PS. Voted for you, BTW

  22. alicia says:

Spoken like only a mom can… And I wouldn't trade any of it.

  23. MommaKiss says:

I know I'm a mom today because my pants were a little bit tight and it's the kids who wrecked my body – so yay – totally know I'm a mom :p

  24. Karen Mortensen says:

At least you went out on the 4th. We stayed home and we don't have kids here. Maybe we can just change it to you know you are old if.

  25. blueviolet says:

It all sounds pretty terrific, except for the Barney part! ;)

  26. AJ says:

:) These are great! I love the 4th ones… man did that holiday ever change when I had kids!

  27. Emily says:

Every so often, my husband and I will stop and ask each other, "what did we DO with all that time we used to have?" I don't have the answer, but I think it was a whole lotta nothing! I would love to have those days back, even with the boredom.

  28. Chelsey - The Paper Mama says:

Ha! These always make me laugh… because it sounds like me! :)

I'm inspired by you talking about your post par-tum. I'm still not ready to discuss it on my blog… but, maybe a little closer. :)

  29. Aging Mommy says:

I used to so hate listening to the Wiggles over and over and the horrible turkey song and yet when I got in the car on my own I would realize just like you after an entire trip that I had listened when I did not need to! But we have finally moved on, Black Eye Peas and Gwen Stefani are what we now listen to :-) I used to think my life was SO busy and SO hard but it was a walk in the park compared to life now.

  30. Jammie says:

Omg this is so true… My baby is almost 9 now :( hopefully we will have another one soon. I missed fumbling around for the sucky. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  31. Leanne says:

I love your "You know you're a Mom" isms . . . the are so perfect and true (love the driving and singing along w/Barney when you are alone – so familiar to me!) Thinking of you!

  32. Amy says:

I can relate to pretty much all of these! I always end up watching the kids at family gatherings. I think, because I work with kids, people think I just don't mind watching kids all the time. Not so!

  33. Maureen says:

Oooh these are great list, lady! Love the fireworks one hahaha. Mine would sit by the balcony all night watching them if we let him to.

  34. Arizona Mamma says:

Kiddy music in the car. Happens to me all the time. Only, I am always just about to my destination before I realize it's been on the whole time. Pitty. For those precious few times alone in the car to be spent listening to hickory dickory dock.

  35. Gigi says:

Always catch myself listening to the kids' music after I've dropped them off. I'm all, "argh! wasting precious time listening to THIS??"
